I have noticed allot of things that I would like to be tweaked in the US Heavy SAM, first off the AN/MPQ-53 has been upgraded to the AN/MPQ-65 and its in service, it can track and engage more threats, It has a larger search radius, larger range, faster searching, faster detections, and to top it off it's 200lb's less weight. This is mainly due to the new "traveling wave tube" that was put on to it and it is most commonly found with the PAC-3 Units, and upgraded PAC-2's.

The next is with the PAC-3 launcher i noticed that it has 8 missiles when per launcher it has 16, other then those keep up the brilliant work making the SAM's even more realistic.

Yea, we're actually using MPQ-65 specs when writing the radar software. You can see that because the Patriot system in game has 9 engagement channels by the fact that it kills several targets simultaneously at once.

For some reason we put down MPQ-53 as description but forgot to change it.

As for the PAC-3 TEL, yes we're only using 8 missiles entirely for balancing. We didn't want the SAM site to be completely invincible with 32x PAC-3 rounds per site, it would be kind of overkill, lol. Even right now, a well managed Patriot site is *very hard* to take out with TBMs and CMs.

We actually did change the description on Beta 7 update. It should say AN/MPQ-65 on the reinforcement menu description.

As of Patriot WCC script 2.3, the software actually simultaneously illuminate 9 targets for GEM+ rounds, so game's Patriot system is already on latest MPQ-65 specs based off of unclass data.

PAC-3s yes, it would be way overkill to put 32 rounds per fire unit. But you can spread out your 2 or 3 fire unit squads to cover a huge area though to provide just as effective defense.

Well yes it is the balancing thing but then why not have just 1 PAC-3 launcher as a unit and the TOR-M1 as a separate unit as it is allot cooler to have them wherever you want and not exactly with the same group?

It is because of again balancing and realism.

(1) We don't want players dropping PAC-3 literally out in frontline to surprise air players; and

(2) PAC-3 system is designed for ABM and to /protect/ the Patriot battery by acting as a shorter-ranged close-in defense.

Many players don't know the difference between PAC-2 and PAC-3 and they have no clue how the systems are integrated nor how they should be used doctrine wise. So it is much better to integrate both Tor M1 and PAC-3 into the Heavy SAM squad so everything is behind the scenes for people and they don't need to worry about the details.

That's not the only problems either actually. The Patriot WCC software runs on the radar set, not on the missile launchers. Software analyzes and tracks the incoming threats and picks and chooses which missile it thinks has the higher probability of kill. Missile guidance is done using TWS records stored on the radar unit.

All of this assumes that both the PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles are being fired from a location that is relatively near from the radar-set. This is why Heavy SAM is a squad, so all relevant system components are networked properly.

If PAC-3 launcher is separated outside of squad, not only is it unrealistic doctrine-wise, you'll also see that engagement geometries become extremely inaccurate as software running on the radar is no longer able to feed accurate guidance data to airborne PAC-3 missile unit in pursuit of target.
