So how does the Auto Pilot work? I just can't get it work, only difference is that the helicopter is slower, doesn't respond the same way with long and short move orders (doesn't change altitude the same way) and is a sitting duck for SAMs. It seems like you should tap Alt for changin altitude, taping insert for speed and another one for something i don't remeber, but well, that didn't work.

You don't. It's already turned on when you buy the unit.

Offensive attack helicopters fly low by default and you need to use fast-micro move orders to setup proper attack ingress/egress runs.

With defensive chopppers using autopilot, you don't have to, the choppers maintain auto-hover at all times and when yo issue move order, they lower altitude, then up the altitude again once arrived.

then whats about ALT INS and HDG in the unit info?

That's exactly what auto-pilot channels do, in real-life. It holds altitude, heading and direction.

I think people are confused because they have no idea how auto-pilot works in real-life for rotary wing aircrafts.

On most helicopters (you'd be surprised to find that this is done almost exactly same, even down to the name of terms used for both American and Russian attack helicopters), there are two modes of auto-pilot:

1. The basic auto-pilot is called "Flight Director Mode", or also commonly called "Auto Pilot Channels". Helicopters by nature are extremely unstable and requires careful touches and adjustments on the cyclic stick at ALL TIMES to maintain proper heading and altitude.

Auto Pilot channels allow the pilot to stay with his hands off of the cyclic by maintaining HEADING and ALTITUDE by themselves. This is exactly what it does on the mod -- it allows chopper to hover and maintain direction/altitude by itself, without you having to make constant adjustments on it.

The Auto-Pilot channels DO NOT fly the helicopter. Most people think that's what it's supposed to do, but that's not what it does.

2. The 2nd auto-pilot is called ROUTE MODE, which upon engagement, the computer automatically adjusts flight control surfaces to move the aircraft to a designated navigation waypoint. This is the auto-pilot that most people are aware of, but this auto-pilot is rarely ever used in combat situations where hard maneuvers are required.

We do not simulate ROUTE MODE in MW Mod, we only implement Auto-Pilot Channels, so helicopter remains static and hovering at an optimal altitude without having to have you fly it around.

Oh, I see, no, the thing that got me wondering is that I didn't realised you wanted Regular choppers to be like you steer them yourself, and thought you possibly with Autopilot kinda meant radio controled... by the commander. Now I realise it's the other way around, the regualr choppers are the one You, control.
