Description

So I decided to test our new fancy 1604 scenario (which isn't quite complete, but it's very much nearing completion). And I gotta say it's been pretty fun so far. I started as Venice. First thing I notice is my economy which is in the red, so I quickly set about increasing taxes (about 80% for each class, which is something like 30% because of low efficiency, they can bear it) and set the tarrifs on imported goods to 65%. Nice steady flow of money ensues, something like $70 a day, which may not seem like much but since there's barely any fluctuation that's well enough. First war that erupts is France vs Spain, France wants its cores back. Austria joins in to defend its fellow Habsburgs. After quite a bit of fighting involving something like 200 000 men on both sides France gets some its territories back, and liberates Sicily. Meanwhile in Scandinavia Sweden goes for Danish Scania, but while it's busy fighting the Danes and Norwegians the Russians take the opportunity to seize a chunk of Finland. Early on I manage to make some uneasy alliances with Tuscany and Modena, but a reactionary rebellion in Venice turned my democracy into a presidential dictatorship and put an end to all alliances. In my very own backyard it turned out, trouble was also brewing. Milanese rebels occupied Lombardia and forced a battered Spain to accept their independence, resulting in a new nation bordering mine. That fellow Italian city state however apparently had delusions of grandeur as they attacked me within two years, perhaps thinking my 15k army was all I could muster and that the recent rebellion left me weak. They occupy half of my provinces before I manage to mobilise a sizeable enough force of 39k and counter-attack. After a few weeks of fighting I finally seize Milan and enlarge my Venetian empire. The Greeks in my Cretan holdings are getting restless but I can handle it. The year is 1614 and Pomerania is about to attack Brandenburg, which is quite busy with a reactionary rebellion
