Description

The Blast Rifle is a specialized version of the Flechette Rifle issued to Shock Troopers. The ammo blocks for the Rifle contain flechettes coated with a binary explosive compound. On impact the compound on each flechette combines and and explodes, filling the target area with multiple explosions.

Originally designated as too risky for conventional use, the weapon system is only certified for use by UETF Shock Troopers. Even with the added protection from UETF defensive systems, there has been several incidents of severe operator injury from close range combat. However, the weapon has proved extremely efficient at destroying both unarmored and tungsten armored enemies. Recommended usage is to engage enemies at medium or short range; extreme CQB is discouraged due to the chance of operator injury from splash damage.

Upgrades are available to experienced users:
At level 1, the weapon system can be fired in "slug" mode. Instead of splitting into a standard dispersal pattern, the flechettes are concentrated into larger projectiles. Although the large projectiles move more slowly, they retain accuracy over long distances and each one packs a larger explosive punch.
At level 2, the flechettes are modified to carry titanium cores, allowing additional damage to be inflicted to targets hit directly with a flechette.
At level 3, the composite ammunition blocks are modified to carry a higher number of flechettes, increasing magazine capacity.
At level 4, the binary compound is upgraded to create a larger explosion.
At level 5, the number of flechettes fired in a single attack is increased.
At level 6, the binary compound is upgraded to a more volatile chemical, increasing the damage of each explosion.
