Hello everyone, I am Dan5 the director of the Tiberian Dawn Mod. I wanted to post here my reaction to the upcoming Command & Conquer Remastered collection due to release within two days time. I am very pleased that EA has decided to finally remaster the first two games and it probably has to do with being inspired from previous remastering of games such as StarCraft Remastered and thought it was a good idea to remaster the first two Command and Conquer games. We live in a wonderful time in which game development teams are finally revisiting the classics that fans have admired and loved to this day and still want to play remakes of them and so much so they'll go through the effort of modding a game of their choosing to remake it themselves just as we at War Studio have done with the Tiberian Dawn mod. Also I noticed there is a lot more people playing this mod largely due to the hype regarding Command & Conquer Remastered and they're posting YouTube videos about it as well. In honor of this I decided to create an official Discord server for the Tiberian Dawn Mod and Command & Conquer Remastered. Any of you can join it by clicking on the link below the article. I look forward to talking with you the fans of the mod as the time comes to play Command & Conquer Remastered. Also check out my YouTube channel as I will be posting more content regarding this the link is also below the article. See you on the battlefield Commanders.

Due to lack of activity, the Discord server has been deleted.
I hope with the released of source code, you may create a full tiberium dawn mod (including fmv) using CnC 3 engine :)
Not sure how the release of the source code would change anything for a mod project like this. It's not like we didn't already have all the internal unit stats.
I mean, the article should really be called ''Announcing our new discord server & a thank you''
I'll edit the title, thanks.
I think we can all agree that having both TD and RA1 open source was the biggest shocker that came out of this remaster.
Personally, I found the Command and Conquer Remaster completely underwhelming. Maybe I will get it when it on a 50% or more off sale. Until then I will go back to the originals as there is next to no difference between them.
I understand that, I too was disappointed but not as much but that is due to the game not being a 3D remaster of the original.
That's an unrealistic expectation, though. The underlying engine will always treat the game as 2D anyway, and you can't change that without drastically changing the game's overall feel and behaviour.
The N64 version kind of attempted to do this, though only as a purely visual thing, and the method of transforming the terrain to 3D in that, which, given the tile-based nature of the maps, was honestly the only plausible way to do it, was still seriously lacking. And even though the team had access to the height map files from the N64 version, they are only available for the TD single play missions, and it would have taken months of extra work to apply that same rather crappy 3D conversion to all existing multiplayer maps, expansion maps, and all the maps in RA. Not worth it.
Also, if such a conversion had been done, the hundreds of existing user-made maps and missions for the games would've become incompatible.
