Here are the Elves, there will be two elven factions, High and Silvan, this is a mix of both factions.

Noldor are the elves in the Last Alliance in the first part of the movie fighting along Anarion and Isildur against Sauron. They were lead by Gilgalad. Just a tidbit.

read silmarillion. in there you can read about morgroth the first dark lord and the time and wars before the hobbit and the war of the ring.
and on the slopes of mt doom they fought for the freedom of middle earth
