This total-conversion mod takes the Battle for Middle-earth II to the Fifth Century BCE, replacing the original content with two new, fully-fledged factions: Sparta and Athens. Completely new content, strategies and more awaits you. This project is brought to you by Kwen, Matias, Lauri, njm1983, Glaeken and Mike who are hosted at the3rdage.net, a division of revora.net.

Niiiice. Love the shield. What resolution are the shield textures?

IIRC, all shield textures are now at 512x512. Though I may be mistaken - I'll just wait for someone more knowledgeable to correct me :P

I'm glad that you like it! Having those walkable walls in has been quite a coding and modeling achievement for the engine.

Damn! :) I think you could stand to reduce the shield texture size a bit and increase the wall texture size. ;)

Well, it's all very much a work in progress - right now we're more concerned with getting things ingame and functional. Polishing and the like will be handled in due time :)

The shield, along with various things from Leonidas, are on a separate texture that is 512x512. The actual shield only use about 128x128 of that ;)

Note: These walls are probably going to be placed in city maps as useful props. They're not part of the Spartan building set.

For God's sake guys you just did what EA should have done years ago and you make it a random prop ? Make it expensive , difficult to construct at least but the people would love walkable walls ... Every decent ancient RTS gamer wishes for a game having these walls !!!

I understand the sentiment, but Sparta explicitly rejected the use of walls, as they were considered cowardly. It won't be a "random" prop though, they will be properly represented throughout our city maps.

They will be available to Athens, however.

Dorian , I know that Spartans would never use walls as a defensive measure to their home city . My point was not to have the walls completely as a random map prop as it would be a shame of your work . Spartans don't have to be able to use them but for Athenians is a must (should have mentioned that before to avoid the misunderstanding) , considering how vastly they used them through out every war (eg Pelloponisian Wars)

According to that however , I believe you will follow the historical flow and make the Spartan infantry far superior to the Athenian (vice versa for the navy however) so to balance the situation right ?

Yes, Spartan infantry will be mostly superior, and they will also have early access to Ekdromoi, a unit the Athenians will have only after upgrading their barracks.

It is a myth that "Sparta never used walls." :) True, they had no city walls in the Classical era, but they did later in Hellenistic times. But since this mod is based on the Classical era, I suppose it's okay to not give them walls. ;)

that however was during the decline of spartan "strength and honor"

Indeed, many aspects of the whole "Spartan lifestyle" are nothing but a product of their clever conceived propaganda to intimidate their enemies. Still, in this case it allows for some interesting gameplay. :P

Don't worry - the walls will be available for Athens, as has been said. The challenge for Sparta will be overcoming them ;)
