Woah, finally back internet. Sorry for the little delay :)
Anyway, I've stopped focussing on sidequests for the moment since we now have about 30 of these now, not including the main quest or any of the guildquests. All way more interesting then the regular 'go there, kill x of these and return'. I've already gave a small teaser in one of the previous Dev Journals, so you can expect most of the quests to be quite interesting. We have disappearances, historians looking for old documents in shipwrecks, mysterious murders, raids on demon clans, etc. 'Screams of the Night' is my favorite one, it takes place on a tiny island North of Alauria called the 'Isle of Ilista' and has one small village called 'Najral'.At daytime, everything seems pretty normal. At night, the small village gets woken up by storms, terrible screams and murdered people on the strees. Maybe I'll tell more about it later.
So, I promised to talk about one of the features OS will contain. One of these features are wars.
Wars? Uh-huh, I don't quite like the stories where you are 'the one' and you (and only you) can save the world. Seriously. When there is going to be a war (triggered throughout the MainQ, you can't 'miss' a war) the watchtower of that area will be lit. This way, all allies of that kingdom can assemble their troops and ride to help. Now, don't go imagening scenes from LOTR or the 'Total War' games. It's impossible at this stage to have hundreds of critters rushing through without having serious lag or other problems, at least with the NWN2 engine. Besides, it wouldn't be fun either just pure chaos. I have no idea on how many creatures we're going to have on screen at the same time but with a few smart respawn spots we can make it seem like hundreds of enemies keep rushing through that one gate. Sound will also be quite a factor to give people the feeling there actually in a war, but I doubt that's going to be a problem. Through the game (the mainQ) there will be +/- 4 wars with 2 of them you'll actually participate in and play from the start to the end. It's obviously not a huge amount, but keep in mind this is still just a TC and eich extra feature will cost more time. And time it'll take to create the whole world of Arryth. Don't worry though, Open Alpha and Beta releases will be available for download throughout the development procces. I can't guess how long it will take, it depends on to much things. Maybe after a bit of actually modding with the new engine I can try a small guess.
