It's the first time I've been absolutely infuriated this quickly by a mod. Honestly I've played a lot of mods that were disappointing but this one takes the crown.

The things that bothered me the most:

- The cinematics you have implemented are extremely bare, way too long and tasteless. I don't even know what I was seeing there's absolutely no context given at all.

- The first map has a delay on the beginning of the intro cinematic. I was free roaming in a room with skewered ragdolls and an extremely conspiracy inspired alien.

- The whole intro with the jeep is just OH MY GOD MAKE IT STOP. It's like you playtested it on easy skill with godmode turned on. There's displacements sticking out to the road (specifically the one before you get to the city near the moving truck) that end up causing the jeep to be stuck. You also randomly die at the broken bridge to a trigger_hurt for absolutely no reason. wtf m8?

- Extremely AWFUL retextures. What did you even try to do with the ammo crate ? It's like you asked a five years old child to mess around with paint and decided to go with that.

- Dead naked FEAR Alma model on a table with no real context. ALIEN movie facehuggers and so on. Wtf? Is this a contest of how many imports you can shove into a mod?

- Making squad NPCs with low health a game end condition if they die. A few rooms later one of the first NPC you encounter is an automatic turret. Obviously a genius idea here.

- I have to destroy supply crates with an SMG because you decided not to provide a melee weapon. Why not.

I do NOT recommend this mod at all. It's been a painful experience and it doesn't even come close to the first HL1 mod. Official seal of sadness.

Extremely poorly made. There is too much wrong with the mod to even take the time and make a review.

Brilliant, although now I can't get the frickin birdie song out of my head lol. Thanks for a fantastic game mate. Love it.

I originally started playing this mod but could not get passed the bugs and gave up.

Since then however I have had a bit of time on my hands so decided to play the patched version and I am glad I did. This game is so funny and annoying but in a funny way I really enjoyed this. I can see why this would not appeal to everyone but I thought it was very funny. I was confused about the story at times but really enjoyed playing it nonethless. The maps are brilliant, the humour is witty albeit a bit childlike at times. Well worth playing now that bugs are fixed. Thanks alot for a brilliant mod.

I couldn't finish this. I could not.

This mod is littered with content from other great mods, such as Resistance and Liberation and that one spaceship mod that had puzzles and was really interesting and was never totally finished (I don't remember the name, but you get the point). It turned me off knowing that my other favorite Half-Life 2 mods had content that was used without permission (I am assuming this as I saw no credits to the original authors, correct me if I'm wrong).

The health packs do not work. I had to turn god mode on because the health packs stopped working after you go into the sewers to meet the guy. The gameplay is extremely boring. Run. Shoot. Dead. Bleh.

The story was nothing special. You can predict what would happen next easily, and there wasn't any very good character development. It is extremely important in this story due to you wanting to save Anna because reasons.

The levels were good looking... and that's about it. Good looking. I had to use noclip countless times to see what I was doing wrong, usually it's because of a very delayed trigger script or just a broken trigger script.

The music is wonderful because it's by John Williams. It's copyrighted, so I would not recommend recording the mod. The music scores are not well placed though. I feel like the more "whimsical" pieces were used in the places where there should be just an ambiance, or a surprising fast-paced piece.

Do not download this mod. It is an absolute waste of 14 gigabytes.

Its been a long time since I have felt the need to review a mod on here but I think I have to on this one as I feel some people have been extremely harsh in their ratings on this game. Whilst I appreciate people have their right to their opinions to slate a game in such a way due to it having elements from other mods or "too difficult" because of getting a stuck a few times on a level to be is just pathetic.

As a mapper myself I would challenge anyone to show me a mod that is better mapped, more detailed and more lifelike. I think I even saw someone saying that more could have been done with halflife 2, which made me gringe as clearly this person has no knowledge on the subject. If anything the engine has been pushed too far hence I think the few bugs on first release which is another point I want to make, again I think people were very harsh on this point considering the amount of bugs in other mods and even professional games.

I would just like to say well done for some exceptional mapping and also some real talent in the voice acting, whoever plays the alien in this game made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Thank you.

I have loved the first Gate on HL1. So when I have heard about Gate 2 and it science-fiction's ambiance this time, I was very excited. I hope a game with the same ambiance than Titan XCIX.

But in the end, the mod is disappointed. First, there are exactly the same problems than in the first mod. The build of the story is horrible and childish. The difficulty is poorly balanced.

Second, with these problems, who can be tolerated in a HL1 mod. we have no new weapons unlike in Gate 1. The level design is not bad, but it's clearly lacking inspiration. Using HL² contents in a univer different of the Half-Life's univer is complicated I know. But in the end it's ruins the ambiance. Same problem when the mod using Alyx or Breen's models, for new characters (Specifically when one of this character had a different model in Gate 1).

The mod is not clearly bad. Not if we compared with other Source mod. But in fact we have the impression that this mod is just a new HL1 mod. And for a Source mod, I'm afraid it's not enough. I know it's complicated to create new textures, models, weapons, on Source. And I don't expected a mod like Black Mesa of course. But I think I would have prefer a Gate 2 with the HL1 engine.

Cons: Story a little to complex and a few plot holes
Could have used a little more direction at times.

Brilliantly mapped, unique and unpredictable, lifelike environment, great attention to detail. Reminds me a bit of medal of honour meets tomb raider it has that type of feel. Very impressed with snow maps but struggled to know what to do.

didn't think the original version was too hard quite enjoyed it as it was before the patch but I guess some people don't want challenged. Annoyed at some reviewers reviewing a game they have not finished . If your going to review a game at least play it to the end !

-subpar voice acting
-all weapons lifted from HL2, not even reskinned for the WWII levels
-most non-HL2 art assets, textures, and models are lifted from other HL2 mods or Source engine games
-in-game music lifted from movies and other games

Thank you, really enjoyed playing this.
