To atone for your failures you have decided to steal the latest prototype plane being developed at the research centre. Although the poor design quality and build standards (the “Made in the USA” sticker is particularly frightening), make you concerned over whether it can actually fly at all, you decide that you must take the chance. Determined to save the world, you jump on the truck to take you into the centre...

Smart and fun. Don't forget to see the Readme included, it's an important part ;) .

This one has some great ideas, it has a piece of humor that really got to me. It also has some really great set pieces, like flying the aircraft and that little puzzle that follows to get passed the door. Wow was it a ridiculous way to solve a small problem but entertaining and really surprised me.
The next part also is dam good thinking on the part of the author, while it’s not immediately obvious, its hard if you miss it and have to take on those 2 checkpoints without the APC.
And then comes the challenge, it provides one large fight soon after a part that requires a bit of exploring to figure out how to get into the armory.
So it provides a excellent reward for exploring which hl mods rarely do.
My only real disappointment is that I felt the mod could have done more towards the end but didn’t. And I find that some areas of the mod could have used something new or interesting after having such a great intro.

+A Nice secret for well deserved ammo/guns
+One good puzzle
+One piece of nicely used humor
+Fairly challenging
+3 good set pieces
+- medium length ~20 min
-boxy levels although some areas where interesting
-storyline?
-erratic difficulty

Great mappack from Nathan Ruck, who went on to create "Heart of Evil", one of the best HL mods ever made.

First of all, the mappack is very fun and humorous, a calling card of the creator's. It's not at all trying to tell a deep story or to act serious, which is something I really like. From start to finish you encounter funny scenarios. The mapping is decent, it's pretty good for its release date. There are some imaginative sections such as slowly following an APC as to not get spotted by enemies and sections that compliment the humorous nature of the mappack like using a (very) smart missile to take out a single guard. I really like the escape sequence at the end too. It's like an amusement park ride.

The playtime isn't that long, you can finish it under 20 minutes even if you explore thoroughly. The ending is weird, I don't know what it's supposed to be but you can chalk it up to just another weird and unique decision by the creator. It could have very well ended with the escape train scenario, so that one extra section is just a fun bonus to me.

Overall, this is a pack that prioritizes fun above everything else and it delivers. The jokes are fun, the combat sections are fun, the escape section is fun, so on and so forth. If you have 15-20 minutes to spare, try "The Evil Thing" you will not be disappointed.

Zany and bizarre, and all but impossible to beat by brute force. I love its quirky aesthetics and humour, but I loathe the horrifically outmatched combat scenarios which largely revolve around me sneaking around like Solid Snake. The plot makes little to no sense whatsoever but whilst it explains very little to nothing at all, the ending is one of the best I've seen in a long time and it kinda calls back to some of the best Half-Life mods you've ever played. It's a true gem and a classic to boot.

Great mod that everyone should play.

A bit frustrating at times but there are a bunch of moments which feel quite awesome and make it all worth it. Other than that, it's classic HL.

Very nice mod, good for it's length with nice level design and great puzzles, it was hard but nothing is hard for a player like me :P

Nicely done, Mr.Raskolnikov, nicely done...
