Here is a video showing off the Tier 2 and Tier 3 air defences, as you can see they are much more powerful than any normal anti air defense. They do take up more space and cost a whole lot more tho so don't expect to be able to build more than 4 of these just like that. A Tier 2 defense cost is 1000 mass 5000-some energy, and a Tier 3 defense costs 3000 mass and 10000-some energy.
