The tri-count is a little on the high side (floating in the high 5k mark) at the moment although it nothing that modern engine can't handle. I will do a final optimising pass when the texture is finished.
Fantastic job sir! But add some more scratches to the gun(like you did with the magazine). It's a post apocalyptic world after all, thing's aren't shiny anymore.
I love the piece ! I also have to agree with Radu-, it just takes a little " curing " for a truly realistic look in keeping with the story-line. Rough it up and age it a bit and it'll be 100% !
More scratches you say, I was thinking about adding some duct-tap around the front grip in-order for it to seem like it has suffered the effects of time but yeah I will add some more dirt and scratches.
I hate to be 'that' person, but, um, everything after the handguard is wrong for a BARS AK. It's basically an AK-103 with an AKM gas block, AKM steel magazine, uses the old sight location and doesn't even have the AK-100 compensator - or any compensator for that matter. The stock is also wrong - it's concave, and has a dimple on the right side and an indentation on the left that should match up with the sidemount. Also, the '107 is chambered in 5.45x39mm. Russian magazines were never made in that style for 5.45mm weapons (some copies do, but frankly they're not *that* common compared to the many bakelite and plastic magazines). It's not even a BARS system - the gas system isn't long enough and the gas tube isn't thick enough either.
For what it's worth, it's nicely done - it's just a bit schizophrenic; all the elements that would mark it as an AK-107 are missing, and it's not even correct for an AK-103, either. It *could* be an AKM with updated furniture, no slant brake and a 100-era or civvie dust cover. (AKMs have ribs on the outside of their dust covers for reinforcement, as do the pre-modernized AK-74s.)
And no, it's not an AK-47. Actual Type 3 AK-47s are very rare compared to the number of AKMs and AK-74s produced, though some countries did produce milled AKs of their own.
Yeah I know there is a lot of inaccuracies but that is mainly due to the fact I sort of rushed it. During the developement of this model I was suffering from quite bad clinical depression and I found it very hard to keep motivation up therefore I kinda just rushed through the model. Other factors were also a limitation as I found it hard to find good reference pictures therefore it ended up being mainly based on a modernized Bulgarian AK-47. Tbh I am no way a gun nut and so never really notice accuracy issues on in-game models, even reading through your comments has completely confused me. Depending on the time-frame of the mods developement this might be re-made. Unfortunately if this is the case I don't think it would be done by me as I have a lot of work on my plate at the moment including the coding for Field Zone and modeling work for NMRiH. I do appreciate your comments and please don't see this as a bunch of excuses I just hope you won't flip out if this turns out to be the final in-game product.
I can understand that. Now that I look at it, it does strongly resemble an Arsenal AK copy.
If you're looking to have another go at it sometime, I'd strongly suggest making it an AK-103, and using the references I showed you. In particular, look at the parts forward of the handguard (the plastic thing after the receiver and magazine). For an AK-107 (well, probably a '109 :P), it's similar, but you use a longer and thicker gas tube (the upper tube), as in the references on Wikipedia. The compensator (the thing at the end of the barrel, after the front sight) is the same, and all new-era AKs use a non-slanted gas block (the thing that connects the upper tube to the barrel).
And yeah, I'm not going to set you on fire with the powers of my mind for missing a relatively small detail - I'm just a huge fan of AK rifles (and shotguns!), so I can instinctively tell when something 'looks wrong', and IRL guns are one of my favorite hobbies. ^_^ Don't feel too bad about it.
holy shetness... that's a beautiful work of art.. what's the poly count?

WOW....Fantastic !!!!!
NICE! THIS IS THE BEST MODEL I HAVE EVER SEEN
HOW DO YOU EVEN MAKE THESE MODELS!
TO:G0rd0nF33man,
WITH A BRAIN, A MODELING PROGRAM, AND A PERSON WITH SKILL!!
it looks really pretty for such a nasty soviet world. You may as well make it gold-plated!!
In Soviet post-invasion Russia, GUN FIRES YOU!!
It's a very well detailed model.

Nicely done Surfa !

I was also thinking about duct-tape ... try that too.
sounds good to me :)
Wow, that's really awesome.
Wonder, i like this model!
I think I just pooped a kidney...
it's a sexy model, but the stock and the grip are a little boxy.

Ak-103.com <-- AK-103 refs
En.wikipedia.org <-- a couple of AK-107 refs

Probably the best WIP-model I ever saw!
Nice model and nice texture !
At first I thought this was a SAIGA... ^^
