This mod is for connoisseurs of multistar maps & interstellar military companies. Attemps to bring more realistic space to the gameplay, expanding features and enriching concepts. Provides depth to different development directions: planet habitation, science race, defence, offence. Limited assets force to choose and economize, also giving a chance to totally different tactics. Recommendations Add plus one level to your regular AI difficulty level (if you usually play with Hard AI replace it with Unfair) for maintaining habitual game rush. The majority of universe modifications (planets, militia...) are represented only in custom maps, which are well corresponded with the rythm & scale of the project. Maps are also 50% random, so can fully substitute vanilla random and custom ones. You can disable Phase Lines visualization in Options > User Interface menu section.

Lets discuss functional side of planet types here. Now I can't imagine something new, as there is already quite rich gradation of development stages of planetary bodies. So ideas are appreciated 8)

I agree with you 100% there, very diverse planet selection, all very applicable and great expansions to the mod. This suggestion is in regards to their implementation, however. Is there anywway to incorporate a random map generator with the new planets?

Of course it's possible, but it's no way to create fully connected systems in random generator (I tried), so planets dislocations acquire high risk of being absolutely unbalanced, as well as whole map in general.

I have some ideas of new planet types..

Binary planet ( two planets which move around each other)
Cube planets ( like those in Spore)
Disc planet ( like the earth has been seen for hundrets of years)
(Gigantic space station like death star)

I will edit my post if i get more ideas..
I hop they aren't tooo crazy....

But what will be their functional characteristics? I assume "Gigantic space station" could be another artificial planetoid, but others?
Sins is not adapted for binary worlds, but making one of planets orbiting satellite (like Maelstorm has) will give only visual changes, not functional.

Could you perhaps not so much make more planets, but make more to do with planets? Increase the depth in planet management?
I imagine being able to modify the extra effects from planets like turning a barren planet into a forge world by 'adding-on' a load of industry complexes. Perhaps a new button which will list a load of add-ons for the planet surface. A basic one and an advanced one, the simple being things like underground living quarters, deep-drill mines or even planet-based defence weapons. And the advanced could be huge industry complexes which grant bonuses to build speed, A crystal refinery or bigger gun! :P

Cool, but mostly impossible  XD

Impossible? Not at all! It's simply making the added attributes an add-on. Maybe adding in-game graphics linked to it might be hard but it's certainly not impossible.

Unbalanced or not could you tell me how to integrate the new planets into a random map generator? And is there a list of the new planets somewhere? I've played a few games on Random maps and have only seen "Fragile asteroids" and "Urban" planets, but I'm guessing there are more new types in the mod.

Frankly speaking mod is designed to play on custom maps (beginning with number), btw these maps are also 50% random, so there You will see the whole variety....

The list of all planet types is in the Lore file in "Stars" folder. How to incorporate them in Random maps I'll write later ^^
______________________________________________________
STARS TEORY:

  • Major classes (reflect size): Giant Gas, Gas, Planet, Small Planet, Planetoid (In custom maps it's used to determine body class: whether it's standalone planet or satellite)
  • Major Climats: Cold, Temparate, Hot (determines the distance from star)
All these things have no sense in Sins... So it's used in Stars maps only.
INCORPORATION:

Open  "GalaxyScenarioDef" file with notepad.

planetType

designName "WeightedRandom" - index, that used in vanilla map generation

...here You have Vanilla planets list...

You need to substitute the list with stars planets, that You may find in lists:
designName "Stars_RANDOM_Artificial"
designName "Stars_RANDOM_PlanetAll_Hot"
designName "Stars_RANDOM_PlanetAll_Temperate"
designName "Stars_RANDOM_PlanetAll_Cold"

Good luck!

After playing through 7 games of Stars on a few different maps, and I keep noticing that Gas Giants seem to be modeled after the ones in our system, with small cold moons. It is known that gas planets can orbit much closer than that, so what about desert, volcanic or terran moons for hotter ones? Or even start locations on terran moons?

Dec 15 2011, 3:46am Anchor

Hello!
Well, there are oceanic moons. It's really possible to imagine terrestial planetoids, but seems they are to small to maintain thick and warm atmosphere and magnetic field - but I can be wrong. Threre is Small water terran planet, that orbites close to a Red Giant Star somewhere.
I'd like to mention, that small planets orbiting Gas Gians sometimes, so seems maps where uncluding just far Gas Giants.

maybe u can make a planet icon where u can build cannons or big guns different for each race on the planet that can shoot enemy ships when they are either in the gravity well of like half way in. it would maybe have too be an expensive upgrade and maybe should only be available for a certain type of world or something.... dunno how u would do it though

Jan 31 2012, 10:21am Anchor

What about a crystalloid planet? when settled on there you get automatic income for crystal? you can increase this income through planet development. The same could be done for a metallic planetoid.

Dyson sphere ! (or however u type it)
