The title of the mod under development is called "Star Wars: Rise of the Shadows." The mod is somewhat based off a fictional timeline setting in the Star Wars universe between Episode 4: A New Hope and Episode 6: Return of the Jedi, but mainly between Episodes 4 & 5. Basically the characters in the mod are involved in a plot revolving around a recently formed Consortium of Criminal Networks (CCN) between various members of recently allied criminal networks such as the Zann Consortium, the Hutt Cartel, and the Black Sun; all of whom conspire with an emerging regime in Geonosis to liberate the planet from Imperial occupation. The Geonosian regime is led by Prago the Lesser, and his military commander Darth Rex, a dark Jedi. Along the way, Darth Rex shares his leadership with his new found love, Serra Nova, a Jedi knight who survived Order 66 in her padawan days. Meanwhile, the Rebels see this emerging criminal faction as a potential ally in their war against the Galactic Empire.

No, they haven't been altered from my knowledge, though I'm building off of the Absolute Corruption mod, so I really don't know. But I would assume not.

I would say about half of the units not in the original FOC expansion are ones that are still used from the Absolute Corruption mod such as the Geonosian dreadnaught, planetary version of the Nantex fighter, a lightsaber version of Kyle Katarn, and Princess Leia; meanwhile, the other half roughly are ones that I added using land models from other mods and filefront downloadable skins such as Xizor, green Trandoshans, space Nantex fighters, Dash Rendar, and the Outrider. I also altered some of the coding for the land models that were in the Absolute Corruption mod to make them fit the characters within the plot of the Rise of the Shadows mod. For example the land model of Darth Rex was originally Darth Maul in the Absolute Corruption mod, but I changed that because I wanted to make something original in terms of characters that fit the setting of the Star Wars Classic Trilogy era. Plus, I got creative with the XML files just from the FOC expansion alone and altered them so you can build unique indigenous units such as Geonosians, Wookies, and Imperial Guards for the Consortium, Rebel Alliance, and Imperials respectively. Hope that explains your question in terms of the units used in the mod.
