Star Wars: Interregnum is an upcoming mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion that builds off of the highly successful Enhanced 4X Mod. Fleeing the unknown terror that is chasing the Vasari, the factions of Sins of a Solar Empire stumble on a temporary wormhole that takes them to a galaxy far, far away. The sudden arrival of armadas with trillions of refugees and thousands of warships between the events of Episodes 5 & 6 forever alters the Star Wars universe and plunges the galaxy into an unprecedented period of chaos and violence. Begun, a new conflict has.

Description

The dreaded mining World of Kessel has long been equally synonymous with wealth and death. The wealth comes from the abundant supply of minerals found here that are rare in the rest of the galaxy, mainly Spice and Coaxium. While these substances are often dangerous in their own right, its association with death comes from the dangerous working conditions in the mines and even the hazardous space lanes to even get to the planet.

The planets bizarre astral geography comes from its close proximity to the Maw, a network of black holes whose gravitational forces have created a series of Nebulae. These Nebulae can be so turbulent that they are often called "Maelstroms", and are a major impediment to any ship attempting to navigate the Kessel system.

In Interregnum, Kessel is the fourth Star Wars planet introduced. It provides a massive boost to trade income to whoever controls the planet, and despite limited logistical slots it can easily be the most profitable world in the galaxy. The presence of the Maelstrom surrounding the planet hinders all larger ships in the gravity well, lowering their speed, acceleration, and weapon range, so agile Starfighters and Corvettes will have an advantage fighting at Kessel.

While for the most part Interregnum sticks with the Legends Star Wars canon, I thought Kessel from Solo: A Star Wars Story was a far more interesting planet. Further, since the Interregnum timeline really only changes after Episode VI, there is more opportunity to borrow from new films set earlier in the timeline. Assuming they are good changes of course.
