I have two quick questions;

1# So does the planet itself attack or is it an orbital structure?

2# If (As stated on another screenshot thread) it only targets capital ships, why does it show a titan being hit?

#1: The planet itself attacks. No structures or ships are involved, you only need to build it via an ability on your colony frigate. I tried to get a screenshot of the planet firing but the distance/delay was too large for a good screenshot. If you play the TEC (loyalists) in the mod now (or just attack their homeworld on a map like Point Blank), you'll see they have planetary weapons that operate similarly.

#2. It is only capitalships. This is an Imperial Star Destroyer, it is a capitalship, not a titan. The Imperial Titans are the Super Star Destroyers.

Description

One of the many features the Enhanced 4X Mod introduced was planetary weapons that could operate independently from other ships and structures. It would thus be a tremendous waste to not give the Alliance their famous ion cannon, capable of turning even the mighty Imperial Star Destroyer into a helpless lot of metal floating dead in space.

While the ion cannon cannot destroy enemy ships like the TEC's planetary weapons, its specialized role allows it to greatly hinder enemy capitalships operating in its range. Since capitalships are often the units bombing your planets, the defensive utility should be obvious. And if your enemy decides to send a single enemy capitalship to attack you... well, it will be hard pressed to do much of anything besides retreat.

After being researched, ion cannons can be built on any of your planets with a Galofree Colony frigate, for a modest cost. A few minutes after construction, they'll be online and will display an overhead particle effect to let you know it is active.
