Star Wars: Interregnum is an upcoming mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion that builds off of the highly successful Enhanced 4X Mod. Fleeing the unknown terror that is chasing the Vasari, the factions of Sins of a Solar Empire stumble on a temporary wormhole that takes them to a galaxy far, far away. The sudden arrival of armadas with trillions of refugees and thousands of warships between the events of Episodes 5 & 6 forever alters the Star Wars universe and plunges the galaxy into an unprecedented period of chaos and violence. I'm happy to announce that the most requested ship to be included in Interregnum, the Bellator Star Dreadnaught, will be released in the Alpha 2 release alongside the Imperial Warlords faction.
Based on Kuat Drive Yards old Mandator series of Star Dreadnaughts, the Bellator is a new Imperial Super Star Destroyer that can serve as an economical alternative to the much larger Executor class. It is particularly adept at hunting down enemy capitalships with its substantial firepower and speed, but it does not do as well as the Executor in large fleet battles or in 1v1 battles against other titans. Scale and balance wise, the Bellator is of similar size and power to the Sins titans. It can be produced by both of the Empire factions.

is it possible to have research choice, such that you can research this titan, while abandon another, like the one in Sins of the Galactic Empire?

Not easily, because what SoGE does to choose your supercap is the same mechanic that you use to choose which warlord to join.
Basically you can build the Bellator first with 4 military labs like Vanilla titans, then there's a research for the Executor at six labs. It probably won't be uncommon at all for you to start out with a Bellator, then build an Executor if the Bellator is destroyed.

Probably because they are all made by Kuat Drive Yards, though the size and the domes actually vary a bit. And it's a fairly recent ship to Star Wars canon (before it was made into "Legends" that is), and probably the most popular of ships made by a fan modeler named Ansel Hsiao that were later made canon (though this one is based on a ship seen in the Dark Empire comics, which among other things gave us the Eclipse and the Galaxy Gun). Jesus, what is the point in having a model that detailed if basically nothing can run it? I also think that Geronimo put a pic of a Harrower done by that guy on his ORAW a long while ago. The only game that might be able to run a model that detailed would have to be star citizen, that game runs the highest poly ships of any game I know can.
Or Star Swarm/Nitrous engine that Stardock is developing. Though even for those two games I don't think you'd want to insert models of that quality.
As to why, well everyone on fractal sponge is basically into making really cool Star Destroyer designs. They're not supposed to go in game, they're meant for awesome screenshots. Perhaps even videos/artwork.
Star swarm with sins would be amazing, though like you said, That looks like it would be more for massive amounts of smaller ships, not super high poly ones.
I just nerd out every time I think about if sins used that engine and made it as moddable as the original, but also being 64 bit and multi threaded *drool* Oh how epic these star wars battles would be then :D
That has to be the laziest, simpelest model of this ship ever created. The model has 0 detail, just the absolute outline. God, you even copied fractalsponges exact screenshot and pasted it on the texture, this is the laziest thing ever, I've come to expect more from this mod.
You wanna crash sins over and over with an overcomplex rendering of a single ship? Be my guest, but I'll be very happy with this streamlined version of something I've been waiting a long time to be able to finally command.
