I'm new to interregnum and sins really. I have a large friend group that we play with either PvP or against AI. We love the mod but all of us seem to have a very basic understanding of the game. So I have a few questions both so I can spread the knowledge and maybe slam my friends in a game or two ;)

What is the best faction solely based upon its ability to cream the others in combat?

What kind of fleet composition should I be building with said faction or any faction? (maybe some examples, IE per 1 capital ship, 2x frigates, 3 cruisers, etc)

How do I beat the empire? (My friends mostly all play the empire)

What kind of research should I be focused on?

Overall just looking for someone more experienced to point me in the right direction of what to look at and what to focus on in terms of combat tactics as well as my questions above. Appreciate any input! I wish I had the time to put in some long learning campaigns but I just don't have that kind of time anymore so mentorship is what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance.

1. That's a tough question. Most factions can be scary if played correctly. I would say a late game Rebel fleet with a player who knows how to play them is terrifying. But the Rebels are over all hard to play and survive the early game, it takes a lot of work to master them. Orthodox Advent is powerful and has a lot of easy to use economic bonuses that means the AI tends to do best with them, as well as more inexperienced players.

2. Again this varies a lot on the faction, and of course the best answer is to build the fleet that counters your opponent's fleet. xD The Empire can afford a more capitalship heavy build for example. I will say a lot of new players however tend to overuse capitalships though. Focus on learning your combat frigates (light frigate, corvettes, antifighter, long range, heavy), the core of your fleet should be centered on a few of these units, with a handful of support ships and your capitalships/titan as well escorted flag ships.

3. The Empire like to steam roll its opponents through superior firepower. However, if you have the endurance to not immediately get smacked by them, their lack of healing ships, especially for their frigates/cruisers, mean they will take heavy loses. The Warlords have the weakness of less fleet supply, and the Galactic Empire suffers major debuffs through their entire Empire if you can cause them to lose a planet, so you can try to come up with tactics to exploit these weaknesses.

4. In general focus on technologies that unlock new units/capabilities early on. Save the research that gives a % bonus, especially to combat, for later on when you have a large fleet.

Sorry for the late reply!
