The Goal of space coop at the moment is simply to get a good working coop gameplay together. After some great online help the NPC's are finaly working and shooting at the player. Zombies attack and everything you might want from from the AI.

This mod will NOT officialy atempt to make the HL2 Storyline playable in coop mode. We leave that to mapers out there willing to pull their hair out making all the scripts and work put into the map for singleplayer, useable in multiplayer.

Maps can be used using the ordinary Halflife2 DM FGD. But specific mod features might need the mod FGD to work, like reading specifik maprules from a XML file, new weapons and other changes that seems fit. All work is done along side the Halflife 2 DM code so no mod features will override the ordinary code. If something like that is needed a new object will be added to the mod FGD to handle the situation. This leaves the possibility open for anyone to make a map even without the mod FGD. Info player deatmatch is used for player spawnpoints.

A great maper is working on the first Space Coop maps at the moment.
The Media section have been cleaned as the images doesn't represent the current state of the mod. New media to be added at a later stage.

So whats up next.
Point system need to be copypasted from my old code. More stats collected about the player and the game played. Stats that will be checked to give you titles like "Shotgun Freak" or "Zombie Killer" at the end of the map or during gameplay. Pending decition.

"The Space Race" has just been decided. It's a form of campaign design where each map tell a part of a story involving diffrent groups of people at diffrent places and times that are a part in a larger whole. More details will be avalible in the future.

More Details:

The game take place in the remaining ruins of the once great Mars Colony. A great war between the Earth World Goverment and the Free Colony of Mars reduced the population from 50 miljon to less then 2 million and turned large parts of the colony unsuporting for human life. This was 250 years ago. The colonies equipment was built to last but they know it won't hold for ever and the survivors have grouped themselves together in two extremly diffrent groups. The first called "The Mars Society" strives to make the remains of the colony a livable place for the future generations, researching ways to get old machines working and strive to one day make the outside liveable. The other group called "The True Deciplies of Christ" they where formed shortly after the attack, spreading the word that the destruction came becouse mankind didn't pay tribute to all that is holy. The main idea was to keep controll over the population to avoid fighting amongst themselves and create a better future, but something went wrong. For the last 250 years they have litterly brainwashed their followers. Technology is only to be used by the priests and the knowledge of how it works is heresy. This allows the priests to perform miracles using machines that ones was comonly used by everybody. They belive salvation lies in pain and suffering untill you prove yourself worthy to enter HIS kingdom. In the top the 13 sit and watch over the flock. 12 leders all with diffrent tasks, and one man, in constant torture for judas crimes against christ. His advice are sacred becouse pain brings you closer to god.

This is a Coop mod, each map will have given set of mission objectives and it's up to the players to complete them. Diffrent skills with diffrent classes will present diffrent ways to progress in the level. This mod will include new items, props, models and textures.

The player will be part of a problemsolving team that handles critical threts to the colonies safety.

Mars enviorment in a " not Doom or Quake" way.
New dangers, both enemies and and enviormental.

By time restraints i declare the mod dead.

The background story.

I started a gamedev education in September focused on codeing, in my class there were some people beside me, that didn't have a reason to read basic c++ since we done it before. So instead we started codeing on our own engine from scratch using DirectX. It's moving forward slowly but still moving forward. Using a own engine and codeing it from NULL might seem crazy to some of you since it's a lot of work, but still i will know the system inside and out, understande the resoning behind diffrent solutions and have the possibility to remove or work around solutions i(we) don't like. It will probably take more time then just makeing a generic mod för source but it will increase my codeing knowledge in ways source never could provide and give me a flexibility that i would find hard to implent in source in a easy way. I do this becouse i belive that in the long run this is a easier way to produce something that i can show to people and say. "Look, i made that." and feel proud over my work in a entirly diffrent way.

There are lots of other coop mods out there. No one will resemble what i tried to create but i bet atleast on of the sooner or later will turn out good or atleast decent enought to play once or twice.

I don't have any finished work at this point in time, but I have billions of sketchbook pages I can show. I also digitally paint in Photoshop, and am fully capable of making complete illustrations. I have a good grasp on Proportions and general anatomy, and I am not a big fan of manga stylization (Realism for me.)

Sorry, but you have to take a good look at that design doc and see what you really can put in there. Can you code a grappling hook for instance? I would love to use one, hell yeah, but it has to be made first.
A spell check is also to be done, before releasing stuff to the public.

Since you will have the religious fanatics, and holy paladins, i presume there is some kind of plot. That intrigues me.

I love the idea, but number near the "Team Members" line looks alarming. Come on people, help him! :) Theres many good mappers around. About classes - maybe not classes, but character-choice, like in "The Hidden" mod? It'd add more atmoshpere - every crewmate will have his own face - and will represent more than just "another guy with random face" - will have his own story, achievements, and skills. And yet another question - How You want to make the aspect of reparing machines, and stuff?

Some ideas\suggestions:


1) Time, story and plot: year2081 - not too far from present times, but long enough to let people bullit an research complex at Mars . But something happened , the contact with it has been lost and half a year later and completing the experienced crew it has been sent to the Mars \Another, new planet

2) Weapons: Modern ones, as the conventional weaponary on Earth didn't evolved a lot. With realistic recoil, mag capacity, and most of all, power. And there's shouldn't be too much ammo\guns lying around - as it was a research facility, and it was an unexpected attack. Also, this will force players to rather evade, than engage enemies , especially big groups . Also, players shouldn't be able to carry every weapon that they'll find - every crewmate should have the ability to carry a handgun, primary weapon and grenade(s)\satchel charges . Also, the players should be able to use pipewrenchs, crowbars as a weapon .

3) Enemies: Monsters, not people. There shouldn't be much of them - but they must be powerful and fast. They should often stick\attack in groups, and have little "hives" near most important machines, and the bigger ones, outside the complex - so the players will have to watch out while moving outside. Use of HL2 zombies would be good. Single zombies lying\walking around the corridors, representing the labs crew killed by the headcrabs. Headcrabs jumping on players . These ones we met in Ravenholm - but should be more meat-covered , the ones that was jumping on the roofs, but they'd be more challangeable if they would run over the walls\ceiling too . Also, the poisoned headcrabs and their "owners" should take place here too. Any new monsters will be enjoyed :)

4) Place: The overall You can read below, after Post-scriptum. But, to be more precise - Research Complex, with such locations as: Office Complex, Research Labs, Living Complex, Garage, The Docking Station, Small Armory, Security Station, a Communication Station and a big "Dining Room" with Kitchen and BIG fridge. Also, locations of machines that: Filitier water, and make it drinkable; produces oxygen; gives complex\creates electricty ; communication equipment; fueling station . They should be connected by underground tunnels and on-ground, armor-glass-covered corridors.

5) Characters: From 6 to 10 people. As the only expected troubles was with the complex crew, they equipped their team with handguns, and space small-armory, with 2 shotguns and little amount of ammo.

-Technic\Engineer - Able to repair and run machines, equipped with pistol. . One of them should be a mexican-looking-like woman, 27-34 y old . The first Engineer should have Asian-look. Medium shooting skills.

-2nd spaceship pilot with computer skills\hacker hobbyst - able to break into the system of station\break doors code, etc. Should be young, 18-20 years old. Equipped with pistol. Poor shooting skills. Shouldn't be able to use rifles & mg.

-1st spaceship pilot & captain. Equipped with pistol & knife. Skills: Giving orders. He manages objectives for everyone, create smaller teams. Good shooting skills. About 40 years old.

-2 guards. Equipped with pistol, knife and smgs. Both tough, one "bigger" , around 36 y old, second younger and smaller, 25-28 y old. Best shooting skills. Younger similiar to Barney

-Scienist. The only person able to use prototype weapons , but poor at shooting with other guns. He should also can't use rifles and mg . Guy similiar to doctor Kleiner. Equipped with pistol.

-Radio operator. Girl. Equipped with knife, pistol , able to drive anything. Young, 17 y old. Medium shooting skills. Similiar to Alyx .

Each person should have different health values , and only half of them should be wearing a body armor , body armor should have: Captain & Guards.

If You want, I can write more about characters - including their story, etc. it'll take time, but i should finish it.

Well first of. Right now it's worse then bad. Sure you may run around together and shoot enemies. But hey any monkey could make that work right. The aim is to take hl2 to another enviorment this time mars. Add diffrent ways to complete a map insted off just running along long corridors shooting untill the end of the level. I want the mod to give a full experience from the begining to the end. I want to add special features to diffrent classes to make the players able to progress diffrently trough the level or run trough every corner with constant class change by killing themselves. The mappers will hate me and my vision of what i want to do. But it can be done, it will be done but it will take time.

Untill then feel free to complain or be quiet or drop a nice line.
