Holy-god-damn. Would you look at that. Style is absolutely fantastic. Just a tip though, even though you are going for the 8-bit style might be a good idea to make some things 3D. Where the bit down the side is going, you could make those rectangle things stick out, and it'd make the character fit in much better.
I'm a step ahead of you :) Except my skills are that good yet!
I think only some of the levels will be 2D styled
