Situation Outbreak is an Orange Box mod about the impending zombie apocalypse. Armed with nothing but a 9mm and a pair of brass knuckles, you must do whatever it takes to survive against the thousands of zombies that used to be your friends and neighbors. The cost of failure is nothing less than your free will. There are no heroes. No single person can save the world and there are not enough bullets to go around. The only thing left to do is to kill the damned, hoping that you don’t end up like them.

A list of what we're currently working on for the next patch release of Situation Outbreak.

Posted by jamespizzurro on Sep 20th, 2009

I just thought it'd be nice to show you guys what we're up to and what you can expect to see in v1.52. The following are based on developer and community comments, questions, suggestions, and complaints.

  • X means it has already been implemented.
  • ? means it is still being developed and tested.
  • - means it is still very much a work in progress.
Someone wrote:X Improve textures, normal maps, and specular maps of the deagle, chainsaw, and M4.
X Give the zombie overlord in the Overlord gamemode more points and more health when it spawns.
X Have the zombie overlord in the Overlord gamemode do more damage per primary claw strike.
X Completely fix the trigger_escape entity.
X Add a rather simple gib system.
X Fix a bug that sometimes causes spectators to bleed.
X Fix some coding glitches that allow players to become a zombie by changing their rates.
X Disallow default HL2 zooming now that ironsights are present to prevent some bugs.
X Remove so_esc_elescaper for now as it appears to be broken.
X Make the incendiary's resulting fires hang around a bit longer.
X Make the chainsaw deal an instant kill to all enemies if landed properly.
X Disable fall damage for player zombies.
X Increase the amount of damage the MAC10 does.
X Remove any old weapon_ar2 references.
? Add the option for mappers to use team-specific ladder restrictions for func_ladder.
- Fix a bug that forces a player to turn into a zombie when more than 14 players are on a map using the Holdout gamemode.
- Add a new cvar for enabling/disabling the round timer: so_roundtime_enable.
- Fix some zombie NPC spawner glitches in so_sv_remains.
- Fix some minor player clipping problems in so_obj_h1n1.
- Remove old references of weapon_shotgun from all official maps.
- Fix some minor noding glitches in so_sv_forgotten.

We hope to have most all of this done and more by next weekend or the weekend after. Keep in mind this is a patch, not a full release, so there won't be any drastic changes. We are working on getting at least one more weapon ready though so as not to disappoint anyone.

Suggestions are more than welcome on our website @

It's not body parts coming off when you shoot zombies and the like because we won't have time to implement that before the release of the patch, but there will be lots of ribs and blood, I promise. =P

Work in progress. A semi-automatic shotgun may or may not make it into v1.52. For a complete list of weapons we are currently working on, click on the following link:

Couple of things

I really think you should either reduce the melee weapons prices by at least 50% or increase the damage a ton because for the amount you pay you really do get screwed over, $6000 for a shotty or $7500 for a katana something is seriously wrong.(I'm not talking about chainsaw because they are fixing that)

When I use incendiary nades with left click it seems to do no damage whether its a direct hit on a zombie or right infront of it, but using right click it actually does a lot of damage. So I guess left clicking with those nades is broken

I agree, the melee weapon prices need to be reduced. I'll add that to my list.

As for the incendiary nades, yeah, they were somewhat broken in v1.51 but will be fixed for v1.52. The benefit of the left-click should have been that a fire started and stayed for approximately thirty seconds, dealing damage to anyone or anything that passed through it. In v1.51 it quickly disappeared and did little damage. This is all fixed in v1.52.

Nice comments. I appreciate it. =D

We've already begun to do that. Did you see the semi-recent image post featuring the new deagle, M4 and chainsaw reskins?
