An Explanation on how the different sets of Infantry will work in Shattered Lands

Posted by on

We've made a major change to the way Infantry Squads will work.
Originally it was just going to involve you Clicking the infantry tab, and spawn a Rifle Squad, AT Fireteam, whatever.
It was changed to a more wholesome system. Although it may sound more confusing it's actually a lot more practical.
We're keeping the Tier System, but it won't play as big of a role.
There are several types of Infantry Squads, Rifle, Engineer, Support, Anti Armor, and others. Each Squad has multiple choices for deployment.

You can spawn a Foot Rifle Squad for the CIS and have 10 Riflemen and other assorted Anti Infantry soldiers rush off the side of the map,
Or you can spawn a Mechanized Rifle Squad, and have them Roll up in a BTR-80,
Or a Motorized Rifle Squad, and they come in in the bed of a URAL 4320 along with plenty of ammunition in the truck.Or, you could Call in a Mobilized Rifle Squad, and have Two GAZ Tigr IMVs pull up, each loaded with a fireteam of Troops.
There is immense flexibility in this new system, while not all Squad types are available under every deployment type *For Example, The "Vanguard Squads" are not available as a Foot deployment*,

And different factions have different trees, The CEC for example has access to a Mobilized Support Squad, while the CIS Does not, in turn the CIS Has Access to a Mechanized Support squad that the CEC Lacks.
---

This System Aims to give you an immense selection of Infantry types yet remaining useful and practical at the same time, Need to get Troops to an Objective quickly? Send them in a Truck!, Need to get Anti Armor Units to the front without getting sniped on the way? Send them in an IFV!, Need Anti Armor Units but can't afford a Mechanized Squad? buy a Foot Squad.

A brief rundown of the planned Squad types, and the Deployment options, Keep in mind that some Squad types are not available under some deployment options. And some Factions may have access to a combonation that another Faction does not. Transport Vehicles can always be bought seperatley as well.

And Lastly, Squads of the same type but different Deployment Class are not always identical in size or composition, a Mechanized Rifle Squad may have 1 Machinegunner while a Motorized Rifle Squad may have 2

DEPLOYMENT OPTIONS

Foot - Soldiers on foot, without any kind of vehicular assistance. Always the Cheapest of their Squad Type.

Motorized - Identical in size and composition as Foot Counterparts, given access to a Transport Truck to get them to destinations quickly, More advanced Motorized Squads come with stronger Transport Trucks.

Mobilized - Smaller Groups divided into 2 teams and 2 Infantry Mobility Vehicles *IMV*, These vehicles are quick and versatile, Mobilized squads may be equipped with Light, Medium or Heavy IMVs, depending on what kind of a squad it is.

Mechanized W - A Squad accompanied by a Wheeled Infantry Fighting Vehicle, *WIFV*, These vehicles are usually weaker andnot as well armed, but are more mobile and can carry more troops *in most
cases*

Mechanized T - A squad accompanied by a Tracked Infantry fighting vehicle, *TIFV* These vehicles
are
typically slower than their wheeled counterparts, and carry fewer troops, but are usually more armoured and better armed *In most cases*
---

Currentley we have 10 types of Squads planned. This number may be reduced if we feel certain squads are useless, redundant or otherwise unecessary

Rifle Squad –
General Purpose Anti-Infantry Squad. Possesses no Anti Armor Capabilities

Assault Squad
– General Purpose All around squad, Mostly consists of riflemen but contains
some Anti Armor abilities

AT Squad –
Anti Armor Squad, Mostly consists of Riflemen and AT Soldiers

HAT Squad –
Anti Armor Squad, Heavier focus on AT Soldiers with higher firepower

Recon Squad –
Mostly a Light Squad, utilizing long range snipers, scouts and a few rifle infantry

Forward
Advance Squad – Utilizing elements from both Assault and Recon Squads,
Typically used as a first strike that can hold an area for a decent amount of
time until reinforcements can arrive.

Engineer
Squad – Mostly a Vehicular Support squad, But very versatile, can be used to
lay traps for enemy vehicles or troops, as well as engage vehicles *some
Classes of this unit only*

Defensive
Squad – Mostly a Combonation of Assault and HAT, Comprising mostly of Anti
Armor soldiers and Machinegunners, best used for the bolstering of defences.

Support Squad
– An entire Squad mostly dedicated to Medics and Ammo Suppliers for infantry
support

Vanguard
Squad – A Heavy Assault Squad designed to hit hard and fast, Able to tackle a
large variety of enemies, the most advanced of the regular Tier 2 forces
