It's actually a shield; I suppose it is a little harder to tell in a still picture, not being able to see it pulse and stuff.
Originally, the break-off part of the bridge wasn't covered by the bridge shield, so I extended it.

I see, but if it's a shield, wouldn't you rather mesh the entire ship blue then?

That's one possibility I was looking at; What I think is more likely to happen though is that I'll get rid of this 'Bridge Shield' altogether as I have noticed, when the 'Power Shields' ability is on, is that because there is essentially a double-thickness shield there, it looks quite odd, especially in the wrong light.

Yep....... partly; The left-most (In this picture) part of the bridge breaks off when it's associated hardpoint is destroyed.

Description

The screenshots from the model viewer don't show the other half of bridge attached because it is a break-off prop, and therefore a separate model. So here it is in-game, turrets attached and-all. (It looks so much nicer in-game; I think this is where future screenshots will come from)
