What will the range/accuracy be like on these weapons?

They are rifles so the weapons themselves should be quite accurate. However I have no idea how the troops were trained.

During the American Civil War both sides had rifles too and yet the average individual wasn´t much of a shot because they weren´t properly trained for accuracy.

If the same applies to Japanese troops during this time period then their skills should be kept low to properly simulate that.

not sure I personally agree. in most recordings, during lets say, a skirmish and you're firing in a line, suprisingly, soldiers usually didn't shoot to kill. the japanese were trained by hired foreign military commanders, or something similar.

nastynaq The Japanese Imperial and Shogunal forces were indeed trained by foreign officers, British and French accordingly. However, I'm not sure where you're citing that they "didn't shoot to kill" they were most certainly trained to shoot at their targets. What records are you referring to? Furthermore, skirmishes are rarely recorded because their very nature tends to make them brief and unpredictable.

articulo34 Both sides did indeed have rifles. However, don't forget the vast majority of troops were still equipped with smoothbore muskets. Line Infantry was indeed trained to aim at an enemy, however, they were not trained as well as skirmishers, they were also not commanded to take evasive maneuvers very frequently. Finally, Japan wasn't a unified country yet so the Shogunal troops were trained by the French and therefore tended to have more emphasis on individual marksmanship, whereas the Imperial troops from Satsuma and Choshu tended to be trained by the British and therefore placed more emphasis on artillery and discipline.

Almost all longarms are modern rifles from 1853 Enfields to Chassepot rifles so they will have very good accuracy. To balance it out a bit, but still keep it realistic, muzzle loading rifles will have more accuracy, more damage, but a lot less muzzle velocity.

Cartridge loading rifles like the Snider will have lower damage, but much faster loading time and much faster muzzle velocity. The Springfield for example has 300m/s muzzle velocity whereas the Chassepot has 410m/s and faster reload. After doing a couple of battles and shooting from the other side of the map with Snider equipped Imperials, the soldiers ran out of ammo and only killed about 5 - 10 enemies before I was forced to melee charge.

Most firearm equipped troops also have almost no firearm skill points except for more trained infantry like the Imperial Guard or Tosa Riflemen.

If you were hoping to charge Imperials head on and engage in melee its still very much possible and if you were hoping to gun down Samurai, that is also possible.

Frankly, I'm perfectly fine with separating history from gameplay. Furthermore, I'm very grateful to you for having created this mod for us to enjoy. However, that being said, may I suggest that even conscript infantry have SOME firearm skill? They were still trained and teppojutsu (the art of the gun) was certainly practiced amongst samurai, so they would've had a degree of competence regarding the reloading and aiming of matchlocks. However, things such as repeating guns, revolvers and artillery were indeed very foreign during the Meiji Restoration and should not have many people experienced with them from the get-go. Though I wonder if it's wise to include those items considering how much stronger they are compared to the rest. Finally, like I said, feel free to do whatever you want with your mod that you deem necessary and/or fun. But I just wanted to point out that most guns in Japan, and around the world for that matter, were still smoothbore at this point. YES, there were rifled guns, however, there was plenty that was not still due to the cost of their manufacture. So please do consider putting in some matchlocks, flintlocks, and other types of guns too :)

Description

New western firearms mean even the most armored samurai are cut down in a hail of bullets before they even reach the enemies lines. Guns will play a much bigger role in Rising Sun than in Gekokujo and those commanders whose armies do not have them must be smarter on the battlefield.
