This is a really nice pic! It looks realistic and I like the soft shadows depicted on the wall.

Your trees seems to project their shadows without the alpha, did you add them in lights.rad ?

Yes, I have tried absolutely everything to get them to project their alphas as shadows, it's sort of the last hurdle to really getting the lighting i'm aiming for.

Make a .rad file named exactly like your .vmf and put it in the same directory.

Then add lines: forcetextureshadow <model path>.mdl

add -StaticPropLighting -StaticPropPolys and -TextureShadows to your vrad.exe compile commands.

Your map now looks even better.
Also maybe a more saturated fog.

Description

Environmental lighting tests. Still a lot of issues to work out, the trees are look far to square for instance.

A good comparison can be drawn between this image and the below linked image in regards to the improvement in building details.
