The means for an army to transport their forces through land and sea has often been a major contest of how to bring them there safely. The Defense Initiative instead fields the Galleon. Equipped with a 155mm Cannon the Galleon can also protect itself against enemy threats when approaching their destination.
So this one for transporting infantry only or it replace Explorer and what is the point for puting two transports for the same faction

It's a Sub-Faction Replacement Unit. It comes armed with a gun so it can help protect itself (Don't expect it to win 1 on 1 though) and being a transport it doesn't have sensors to detect cloaked enemies.
