Raising the Bar is a mod based off of the idea of amalgamating the earliest concepts of Half-Life 2 into a coherent story. This mod is not a leak-fix, nor is it a concept art recreation gallery; it will be a full story with inspiration from the old material as well as our own ideas of how to make it all fit together.

I like it. Doesn't just look like a box with a photograph on it anymore.

I always liked photograph-textures. Even if the quality isn't very good, it feels more realistic and atmospheric to me as the HD textures of Far Cry 3 for example.

Looks good, but Id say it looks like a completely different object. If I were re-creating it, I would have maybe just added polys to create the handle looking parts, and remade the texture with normal mapping, like the one on the right, but same tone as the original. This looks like more of a comparison of the years the objects were made. skin looks nice tho, wish I had someone with your talent to help me push out the models I need to get done on our project. :D

Thanks for the kind words! I did make this model and texture based on a different reference and didn't even know that the other one existed :P. I will definitely take this advice in the future. Thanks! ;D

Valve`s obviously miss bumpmaps, but it look more stylish and real than newly made

Valve didn't make bumpmaps for that texture.

I know, first release of HL2 didn`t had them in any model
I`m just saying that you probably should stick to the original more

Yeah, I will take that advice in the future. I was actually basing mine on a real life reference. Whoops :P. But I will definitely base it on Valve's textures next time.

I think real life references are a good way to go. Makes the content seem more new.

Yep, that one on the left is definitely better. You just look at it and you know what it is. That one on the right is good too. You can use both, just add some bumpmap to Valve's one and you are good to go :)

That is really not what it needs. A bumpmap can only do so much. It would need a full re-model and re-texture.

The normal mapping is gorgeous on this model.

Description

Recreated the electrical box with 28 triangles and 1k textures. Used a different concept than the original so the result is a bit different. However, I am sure you guys get the point ;D.
