looks good, is this also compatible with the two mission packs? specifically the steam versions of the games.

Work with steam or gog version very fine. But do not rename quake2xp to quake2!

Congrats on the latest release KirkBarnes.

When i press F1 the objective hud almost fills my screen and seems to be over zoomed as i get tearing above and below the yellow text, any way of shrinking it? Apart from that minor issue it's friggin gorgeous mate. Takes me back to the 3dfx and PowerVR days, i'm that old. Thanks again for all your hard work.

Running at 1920*1080 nvidia.

To fix - reduse hud size in options menu. I'ts bug for all non 3:4 aspect ratio resolutions

The music volume will not respond to the respective menu bar. Music is very high and I cannot reduce it. I have patched the .exe with _inmm and I can hear the music looping correctly for quake 2 and for both mission packs. Any clues? Thanks.

Music from hdd, haven't checked from CD. But I don't remember facing this problem with KMquake or q2evolved, I am not sure though, I will check again with those other engines.

From cd i'm check q2e - code return error and cd play on maximum value. Bers@q2 an q2xp too, but i'm fixed this.
But ogg music work fine for me. I can test ogg again to this night.)

Test on my work compoter now - ogg audio work fine (win 10 x64, intergated realtek, use openal_soft audio interface in game)

OK, figured it out. Stupid, but I just had to change the source from CD-ROM to audiotrack files and now the bar responds just fine. Checked with mp3 and ogg audiotracks, works fine. I also checked evolved and kmquake2 and they also work fine btw. Thanks.

This mod would be perfect if you could add the original 3d explosions (from RL, for example) and particle effects (i still like the original railgun pixelated trail better). And maybe an option for vanilla style menus (black background) and loading screens. Otherwise, this is the best mod for Q2, imo, perfect blending of old and new, retaining the classic feel.

Quake2XP displays very bizarre behaviour when it comes to resolutions. It just falls back to 720p irregardless of the set resolution. Native display resolution is also recognized as 720p. I have a 1080p monitor and never had problems like this before.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Figured out it, it was the infamous W10 DPI Scaling, after turning it off everything worked as it should have.

Loving this mod, But curious.. As far as maps go with custom textures, Is there a way I could include specular/normal/diffuse maps and so on in the textures folder for the engine to load? If so what types of maps does it support and what naming convention?

you can use tga or dds

diffuse no suffix: rgb - color map, alpha - height map
normal _bump: rgb - normal map, alpha - specular
roughness _rgh: use red channel only
glow _light: rgb

Alright and the naming convention? Say I have Cement01.wal would I need to name them like Cement01_n.tga etc? That's usually the general rule (Just adding an underscore and the letter for the type of map)

Apologies if I didn't understand it.

Been trying this but I think the way I learned to use maps for the programs I'm familiar with is "Wrong" as I'm not getting the same effects, Everything looks kind of like shiny plastic. I was going to just not bother you and try to figure it out myself from examples in the engine mod but I can't open those packed archives.

So, Last time I bug you but do you have any flat or simple TGA I could look at to see what layers go where? I'm assuming the layers on each image are used to hold specific values but the only method like this I'm familiar with uses the alpha channel data for things like exclusion or self-illumination maps.

A tutorial or technical doc that you found helpful would be useful too, I haven't had an easy time finding anything specific on GOOGLE.. Like I said there seems to be a lot of methods to channel information for materials out there. Either way, Loving this mod and hoping to get friends to use it too, And make many nice maps for it.

EDIT: Made a quick box room and quick texture files to grab what it looks like..

its albedo texture. In rgb we plase color map, in alpha - height map

I'm actually using antimicro portable with an Xbox One Controller I think it isn't recognizing the fact I have 2 Joysticks because mapping movement to the d-pad works fine.

I'm looking for help in running a fashion. I have an original game on STEAM.

Extract the file q2xp1266_qexpo.zip. Then I run the quake2xp.exe file.
When trying to launch a new game it gets an error: ERROR: Cloudn't load maps / base1.bsp.
I do not know if I am correct fashion uruhcamiam. Before the existence of steam it was simpler. I do not see any original game files on my mobile.

You just need to unpack this archive into a folder with quake2 and, if necessary, install openAL drivers

Hi Kirk,
my problem is the following: if i set the resolution in video menu to "desktop" or custom 2560x1440, i get only a windowed picture, even if i set "fullscreen". it works fine with fullHD, but i'd love to play the game in wqhd... :(

native/desktop is 2560x1440. both, this option and the try with custom resolution via xpconfig does not work in fullscreen.
