Vortex is an Action-RPG for Quake 2! The first playable version of it was release in 1999 and here we are, 10 years later, still around thanks to continuous updates, improvements, and a strong fanbase! Kill monsters and players to gain experience points, which learn you levels. You are rewarded with ability and weapon points. Use these to purchase some unique abilities and upgrade your weapons! Become a tank, spawn monsters to fight for you, or deploy devices to aid you in battle! With over 100 abilities and 10+ different classes to choose from, there is NEVER a dull moment in Vortex.

Hey bro, Unfortunately vortex is not still up. GHz's server went offline after various spurts of inaccessibility probably shortly over a year ago. There have been a few other servers that I've seen come and go in the meantime, but none with a player base any larger than ten players tops... The only vortex server that remains is a German based server that you can find using qsb (Quake server browser), a program that tracks all available Quake 2 servers... It's extremely saddening man, I've come and gone from various other (mmo)rpgs and I have never truly found that same feeling that vortex gave me. The community, the experience in the game, the rush oh man I've felt more excitement playing vortex than any other game... I started out my online gaming life with vortex and I'll never crave or miss a game / community like I have and will miss vortex and I'd give anything to go back and play a few matches in that 1.93 / 1.96 era and share some laughs with old friends, vortex will always be my home. -marle |
