Welcome to Project Reality: Battlefield 2 (aka PR:BF2), a modification for the retail Battlefield 2 multi-player PC game. Project Reality's aim is to create a more realistic combat environment than standard Battlefield 2, and place a greater emphasis on teamwork and cooperation. Most of the aspects of Battlefield 2 that have the capacity to be modified have been tweaked, or completely overhauled, to reflect their real life counterparts, for increased realism. Ballistics have for example also been audited to reflect those of real weapons, including characteristics such as damage, deviation and bullet drop depending on a weapon systems calibre. Since EA and DICE no longer support Battlefield 2 and is no longer being played online, the Project Reality team made PR:BF2 a standalone game. No longer is a installation of Battlefield 2 required and we have implemented our own online account system for online play.

Don't Aimpoints have 1.5x zoom? And wouldn't one remove the front iron sight first?

No, Aimpoints do not have any zoom capabilities, they are an 1X optic.
Also, you wouldn't remove the front sight for two reasons. The first being that it's not just a accessory that pops on and off, it is also the gas block, an integral part of the operation of the weapon. Second, many users prefer what's known as a "cowitness" of the front sight through the optic. Ideally the sight lines up half way between the red dot and the bottom of the optic, as pictured.
Hope this was helpful, and this being my first post after reading a while, I feel the need to say that modlover is an absolute ******* idiot who doesn't know a damn thing about weapons of any sort.
There's a third reason, being that the Aimpoint's batteries only last so long. Better to have backup irons in case it runs out at an inopportune moment. Seems that usually the rear sight is left off, but if you were going out to the middle of nowhere and battery life was an issue, you'd definitely want a backup.
