Approach the light... Enter the world that is outside Aperture... Free yourself... You are [SUBJECT NAME HERE] from [SUBJECT HOME-TOWN HERE]. After volunteering to take part in the Aperture Science Hand-held Portal Device tests, you notice something strange. In your head, something tells you that boxes shouldn't be orange, portal-guns shouldn't be red and security cameras shouldn't have blue eyes. Continuing anyway, a seemingly friendly robot called GLaDOS starts to guide you through the tests... As you finish however, in a attempt to get rid of you, she tries to kill you. Not succeeding however, you escape into the bowels of the Enrichment Centre. In a final stand-off against you and GLaDOS you defeat her and get dragged off unconscious by a "Party Associate". As you fall down through a old, unused vent, you land down in an different chamber. Can you escape?
Hello there. Yes you. Look at me. Yes. Closer. Right, now. SteamPipe. All of the modders are meant to be benifiting from this 'wonderful' thing that will give us (*ahem*), and I quote:
Now. 100% of those are lies. Lies. Lies. Lies. Maybe not, I guess Valve's legal team say they can't lie, only exaggerate the truth, but none of these are actually coming through for me. Oh right, the quote. Here you go. If you are physically incapable of clicking that link, or ModDB has ruined the link again, the quote was from the 'Benefits' area of the VDC (Valve Developer Community or whatever) page on SteamPipe. Now. The third bullet point. 'Easier distribution (maybe), installation (lies) and management (ooh, betrayal) of mods.' Installation thing. No different, generally harder if it's a custom sound pack or something and not something for the 'sourcemods' folder. Now, the management. THIS IS SO DIFFICULT NOW. This is what gameinfo.txt used to look like.

This is what it looks like now. Oh wait. Sorry, I haven't finished over-complicating it yet.
Give me a few more lines, I'll be right with you.
Right, ok. I think I'm done. No idea. Let me check.
Yep, ok, here goes nothing... Oh wait.
I would paste it, but the formatting would be awful. So I won't.
Instead, I'll tell you the difference in the number of lines in each file.
File 1: 17 lines
File 2: 55 lines
Difference: 38 lines
That's 38 more lines than normal, and to figure that out took me a while.
Now I'm not a fan of copy-paste culture, so I typed it up line by line. This took FOREVAR considering I am the following:
So, this means that was an extra 38 minutes of my life gone (on average), take away the lines I deleted.
That means I spent about one hour typing up one file. I still have the textures, materials, sounds, maps, everythings (shh, that's totally a word) to sort out. Let alone finish the mod.
I want SteamPipe to die in a hole. Now.
Merry Christmas, Valve. And you. Merry Christmas.
