Pretty cool. I like the idea of the heart, and calling it the Weighted Companion Shield, or WCS(Worst Case Scenario :D ).

The idea is a pretty good one, but the way it is implemented in this level strikes me as a little repetitive, still nice work guys.

But you should give it a brand like in "Research and Development", that looked awesome.
Also ALL Turret doors should close^^

Hmm.. A bit boring (and noisy) with a simple piece of glass! Why not make it an energy shield or something similar?

Hmm, a simple yet valid idea. I'm liking the push for the companion heart on the glass. The opening and closing sections of the wall with turrets was really cool, would definitely add some excitement to plodding along on the moving platforms. Technically this isn't a 'handheld device' though; the title made me think it was a new pick up separate from the portal gun, which you could call upon whenever you need it to shield yourself, rather than having to always carry it around with the portal gun. That said though, this is still really nice work!

More like some portal mappack/mod (TFV mappack or P:prelude), where you had to protect yourself with a cube exactly the same way. But I like it better. I hope the next vid will have more guns! :D

Idea: Make glass breakable, but in order for it to work, you have to put a portal on the glass. Then when the turrets shoot at you, they'll just come out of the matching exit. Then it may not be so annoying.

Looking in a portal from the wrong side is buggy. And portals are unmoveable, and go through any prop.

Golly, if I were playing at the 30 second mark I'd have kept walking backward and fallen into the goop :< Please take into account the fact people will do stuff that like that assuming the mapper wouldn't give them just a tiny ledge to stand on! Even if it's just a single corner, then you'd have a wall to back into.

Either that or do automatic checkpoints really really well :)

Also, I agree with the repetitive sentiments. A minute and a half of sitting on the platform sounds pretty unexciting ;)

Euhm, this isn't really an original idea, is it? I used the cubes in Portal as a shield, the only difference is that those weren't transparent.
It's still a nice little 'game mechanic' though (:
