Perfected Doom 3 was started as a simple tweak mod years ago. After realizing that I was still not happy with Doom 3 after making some alterations to weapons and enemy stats I continued to add more to the game. Now Perfected Doom 3 is more then just a tweak mod. It attempts to completely overhaul the entire game with new monsters, rebalanced weapons, rebalanced monster stats, better graphics, new gameplay features and much more. It has been met with great appreciation and acclaim by it's users. This mod will bring many improvements to standard Doom 3.

pretty buggy to me when it comes to changing the settings, it does not react properly to the settings you apply.

Like, you want the motion blue to be enabled, but it's still disabled.

I'm sorry I forgot to add in the readme that you need to use mouse button 1 to cycle through the options for each video setting. It's a bug in the 6th Venom menu that I could not fix.

Disable Catalyst AI (if possible) or set Catalyst AI to "low" then Disable "Surface Format Optimizations".

Some have also reported that the latest drivers produce a crash with Doom 3 mods if your CCC is "not present\disabled".

Thanks man. The thing is I too am an ATI user and by now since Doom 3 has been out since 2004 and there have been several mods that required me to turn off Catalyst AI, I figured everybody would know that by now. I guess there are a bunch of newcomers to the Doom 3 modding world. It's good to see them either way.

Yeah, I may be a tinfoil wearing fool but I've always suspected that many Doom 3 mods have been made by ringers who work for either Nvidia or ATI. Humus, one of the folks who did the biggest "fix" for Doom 3's specular performance on ATI, was hired by them and his fix was added to their driver. Since then many Doom 3 mods have gone haywire on ATI hardware with Catalyst AI enabled. But some do work, Dafama2k7 (for example) found a drop-in replacement for the shader in Denton Mod that fixed the "upside-down" issues for Bloom. I don't necessarily think Sikkpin works for Nvidia as much as I think that he built his body of work from mods that did come from Nvidia employees. What choice is there though, Nvidia was far more generous with OpenGL example materials (and has always had the performance advantage for this game). It has attracted more Nvidia friendly developers. Sikkpin did actually implement some of Humus's other astoundingly cool shader methods in one of his shader packs but I wish that Humus himself had taken a more active role in the Doom 3 modding scene given his skill. Humus is one of the rare OpenGL experts who likes ATI's version of OpenGL better than Nvidia's and knows how to make their hardware rock.

My performance seems to be strangly low. I get 10 fps at times mostly when passning through doors or quickly turning left or right and then it goes back to 30 fps or more up to 38 maybe im wrong but isnt d3 engine limited to run at 30 fps max? What may be causing this problem. With PD3 5 and above (up to 5.4) i had no performance problems. Also shadows seem to be blocky i mean those that are drawn on characters - i think those are called self shadows.

Edit: i had self shadow porblems with 5.x version too.

And i have CatalystAI disabled (no startup CTDs or glitches - shadow glitch aside).

If you get low fps try deleting doom3.cfg from Perfected folder and reset your setting for system/graphics and system/advanced.

Also forget about any graphics enhancments if you only got good GPU but low Ram and weak CPU (turn off: Bloom, HDR, Motion Blur Depth of Field, Soft Shadows and alike). Good GPU alone isn't enough to run Perfected with alls grpahical settings maxed out.

The lowest specs for Doom3+PD36 with most graphics maxed:

Ram: 3GB
CPU: dual core at least 3 GHz
GPU: Ati HD 5770
System: Windows XP/Windows 7 (if you got Vista get rid of it its pile of crap)

Also to disable Cataclysm... Opus CATALYST AI

1.Download Radeon Pro and intsall it.
2.Create profile for Doom 3 (set it however you like).
3.Navigate to: "x:\Users\<your account>\AppData\Roaming\RadeonPro\Profiles\" uder Windows 7 i dont ralli know where it goes for Windows xp.
4.Open profile file of interest (it obviously shuld contain Doom3 in its filename) in notepad.
5.Add this line: <Property name="CatalystAI" value="0" />
6.Close'n'Save
7.Run the game.

Thanks a lot for the info. Sorry for the problems you're having. I really don't have that much trouble. The game play's pretty smooth for me. In the 6.1 patch I will be further optimizing things so maybe you'll get a framerate increase.

The biggest performance offenders are:

Soft Shadows, DOF, and SSAO.

Because there is no direct access to the z-buffer, modders like Sikkpin have to use a hack that causes Doom 3 to paint the z-buffer into a texture then use ARB shaders to decode that texture into depth values. It takes a lot of CPU resources because you are essentially doubling every frame render. It takes a lot of GPU resources because of those depth calcs. The trick that Sikkpin did was to front-load that work so it only needs to be done once. So if you enable Soft Shadows, SSAO won't be that much more expensive (etc).

Bloom and HDR should not be hard on the CPU, AFAIK they simply use falloff image manipulation on the GPU.

Ok played a little with your mod and i want to give you my opinion.

I liked:

1.Storeing of medpacks
2.Alt fire modes
3.Balancing of weapons, monsters and enviorment damages

I disliked:

1.Strange blocky self shadows (those dropped on npc/monster models)
2.Numerous slowdowns (frame rate drops) while performing quick moves
3.Medpacks health regeneration ist to low. Give it +5 and itll be fine

Cant say anything about graphics because i dont use any advanced features.

1. Can't do anything about the self shadows. That's just how it is right now.

2. The slowdowns will be no more in version 6.1. I've reconfigured the light radius for the weapons, projectiles, and monsters. The game runs better then ever. Plus I've reduced particle counts for custom FX to free up resources without making them look different.

3. I'll look into the regeneration time.

Also after applying some changes to your configs i managed to fix my frame rate a bit.
Now i get:
Low: 15-20 fps (also low framerates are a lot less noticible but still slow down when in serious firefight)
Average: 30-60 fps (frequent enough to play without major lag but far from fluid)
Max: up to 90 fps (well i dark places - which is 70-75% of locations - its a whole other deal).

I'm using the latest from Sikkmod, version 1.1, and I haven't included Wulfen's high res textures yet. If I did they wouldn't be in this mod. They'd be included in a second texture pack download.

Dual pistols are coming along nicely. doomtrinity says one week.

Seems like there are 2 problems for me when I save a game. Firstly, the save game GUI does not seem to like me trying to over-write a previous manual save game. But more importantly, manual save games dont seem to work. I try picking a save game to load via the GUI and I get a 'cant load console' error (paraphrasing). Any ideas to what could be causing this?

This is a very cool mod. Playing through Doom 3 again after all these years is a lot of fun with this.

I already got Sikkmod 1.2 added to Perfected. It'll come with the next patch. The updated texture pack will be uploaded soon after the 6.1 patch is released. I'm gonna keep the version 1 texture pack available for those that can't run my mod with the version 2 texture pack that will contain Wulfen's and Monoxead's HD textures. Sound good?

Sikkmod 1.2 FTW! I had major lags with 1.0 and 1.1 but on 1.2 i enabled everything but Soft Shadows and i had to lift my jaw from the floor ;) Also can you enable sikmods realism features. Not all of them of course.

For example randomized health of monsters is something that should be kept disabled (at one time i killed an imp with one shottie hit on another i couldnt get rid of one with even chaingun).

Base Doom 3 loads up normally, but the mod always crashes at "Initializing Menus." Disabled Catalyst AI using RadeonPro. Using Steam version, if it matters, and I've activated Steam compatibility in RadeonPro.

Windows 7-64
8GB RAM, ATI HD 6850 w/ 1GB DDR5, Catalyst 11.8

Tried compatibility modes for Win 2000, XP-SP2 and SP3, with and without administrator. On a hunch, tried disabling everything that looked main-menu related inside PerfectedDoom3v6.0.0.pk4. That only made the crash produce a different error message, once, but I don't remember exactly what it said. Went through mod's autoexec.bat and manually turned off all extra graphics features, still crashes. Tried some wackier things like running Doom3.exe in 256 colors and/or killing CCC and MOM, those don't work either.

Thank you for your time making the mod, hopefully I'll be able to enjoy it soon.

If you're using the latest ATI Drivers I doubt Radeon Pro actually turned Catalyst AI off. Use the method found in the features section of this mod page and let me know what happens. The problem you're having is caused by Catalyst AI not being disabled.

The method on the features page (sorry for not seeing that sooner) didn't work, but I figured out some changes to it that do.
If I restart the computer after editing Profiles.xml, it gets reset to Catalyst AI enabled when CCC starts again. So, I edited Profiles.xml to disable Catalyst AI, then set it to read-only. Then kill CCC and MOM with task manager and then run MOM manually, and Perfected runs on my system now.

Dude CCC cant re-enable AI. Editing profiles.xml should be more than enough. Just dont touch Game options i CCC after edit because whatever you will change (AA, AF) after applying it will reset AI to enabled.

1. Set everything to default in ccc game options (you can set AA method to Edge Detect and Sampleing to Super Sample).
2. Set cat AI to High Quality
3. Untick Surface Optimization.
5. Apply and close CCC (go to taskmngr - ctrl+alt+del and kill CCC.exe and MOM.exe)
6. Find profiles.xml and edit CatalystAI value to "Disabled".
7. Save and run CCC.

DO NOT MODYFIY ANY GRAPHICS SETTINGS THROUGH CCC AFTER EDITING PROFILES.XML IT WILL RESET AI TO ENABLED. You can still change sccreen, video and performance settings.

If you nedd to turn on AA or AF do it through ingame options.

Using RadPro method worked for me bud i applied CAT ai off to global profile.

As i never had an urge to use this thing that i never seen any profit while had it on.

Of course CCC method also works but is so pain in the ***.

Got the same problem as DoktorV. The game gets stuck at initializing menues.

My specs arn't that good though. I will wait for the next release and try that one instead.

It turned out that the problem was that doom 3 was not up to date and you require the 1.3.1 version.
But now it crashes at ""initializing menus""
I have looked at your solution in the features section but am not able to find the profiles.xml file in my computer
I have tried the search option in the windows start menu and tried looking manually for the appdata folder but I could not find either
I still need your help, please reply

The profiles.xml file is what you must edit to disable Catalyst AI with the latest drivers installed. Disabling CAI in the CCC is not good enough. You have to find that file. CAI must be turned off.

Hello, I was having an issue running the mod on the latest Nvidia drivers for my 660ti, (OpenGL would crash, screen would freeze and I would get an error message #7), but I just re-installed drivers and now it is working perfect! I was really looking forward to the DOOM 3 BFG edition set to release in October, but after playing with this mod pack I don't even think I am going to purchase it. PERFECTED DOOM IS AWESOME!!!!!! A couple things I noticed while playing:

1. The plasma rifle absolutely kills my FPS when I fire it. I go from a constant 50-60 down to about 20fps, and it doesn't even look that spectacular when I should take such a dramatic frame-rate hit. (I have installed your most recent patches)

2. Where and when do I fight the Icon of Sin???? I read that somewhere in this mod I am supposed to fight it and I was really looking forward to it, but I just can't find it!?!?!?! :-(

3. This mod is truly amazing and you are a genius for putting it all together.

buddy i dunno why you got such low frame rate, i use it all the time (my fav gun) and i have no issues.

About the icon of sin, i just fought it :D !!!!!
It was AWESOME !!!
You fight it by the end of the game, on the hell levels, it is one of the 2 extra hell levels included ;)
The first being : Tower of babel
The second: Path of sin (where you fight the icon of sin)

^^ wish you luck fighting it, it took all my ammo away ._. ...

and bt...why the hell the baron of hell is harder than the bosses D; each time a baron of hell showed up i had to use god mode, whats wrong?! It stronger than all the bosses together, even ore than the icon of sin!!!

Hej, I just downloaded Doom 3 and updated to the latest version to try this mod. The Problem is I am getting this error:
