Perfect Dark ... This game had an incredible success, but you already know that. This game would deserve one minute of silence, in order to let us remember all the good moments spent in its company. We're trying to recreate all what we loved with using all the power we need provided by the Source Engine. We all dream to make revive this game, with physics and graphics up to date, with keyboard and mouse, with all the weapons and game mod we loved. You see, this was a test on your information gathering abilities. No, really. Among the ways people managed to get the password include: Cracking the installer, attacking the web server, simply figuring the answer, and finally for those lacking such skills, networking: All was needed was one that had the password, once you pinpointed who it was just a matter of using your social skills to get it too

To celebrate the release, we changed hosts and updated the website as well!

Finally, for those that didn't get the password but stayed here until now let's repeat what Rare left for us on the N64 game (and it's the password of preload):

I waited so long and now I don't like it. It looks good and all, but I can't get used to the gameplay. I see potential, but right now PD is not the fast paced action-thrilled game I was expecting. I'll keep true to you and see what the future brings. You did a good job though - maybe I'm just having a bad gaming day,

I expected bad graphics but good gameplay and its the other way around. This mod has one of the best looking maps Ive ever seen on source, all those details(little robots who drive around), good lighting, amazing skyboxes,... The player models look very good too, one of them is almoste too sexy to kill. ;) Weapons looks ok but feel strange, I dont like the animation after you shot with the shotgun.

The gameplay on the other hand needs a lot of work IMO, its just some DM gameplay. I know it has another gameplay mode but it doesn't play very different. The gameplay is not as bad as in some other mods but I can't see me play this very long.

I hope you guys release an update soon and do something about the gameplay.

Even thuogh it's in beta stage, it looks really, really good visually. It truly recreates the original Perfect Dark... to a degree. I'm just hoping you guys add some new game modes in the next release.

best maps to ever hit source.. but i feel the talent in this mod shouldn't have been wasted on perfect dark.. not that pd is a bad game. its just, who wants to play an xbox game on pc? its like halo... nobody touched it off of xbox because it didnt feel right.

Honestly, I thought the N64 version had much better gameplay..

For this PC version, a LOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT of balancing work needs to be done to get it working..And you NEED to start out with a gun. I don't care what people say. You need to start with a gun.

I haven't spawned in any good spots in any of the maps. Usually, I'm near the grenades or nothing. On a few rare occasions, I'll spawn next to the shotgun (Only to be shotguned down by a guy who spawned there recently) or the RCP, and then gone on a killing rampage, since the RCP is so obviously unbalanced.

In any case, they used the bluring effect WAY too much. I'll complain about it on their site later..But in the N64 game, your screen only blurred if you were 1) Punched 2) Tranqed or 3) Grenaded (? Not even sure about that one. I'm sure something else did it, though. Oh, thrown poison knifves!)

Yeah. Once you get hit ONCE in this, you're pretty much screwed due to the massive blurring...

Also, they need to remove the sprinting feature...The maps feel pretty small and crampped to me, mostly because so many people are running around and such. (Sprinting also sometimes allows you to see through walls. More often that usual..)

I'll post in their forums sometime in the future..

Just spent a bit of time with PD:S, and here's a very small review:

The Good:

- Visuals are excellent, great models, maps and effects (not to mention the HUD)
- Sound is equally as good - especially the music, which doesn't intrude to much
- Nice aiming system

The Bad:

- The maps, while pleasing on the eye, are incredibly cramped. Especially 'Ravine'
- Starting with no weapon - while true to PD - doesn't suit the gameplay that is inherent with most Source-modded FPS's

The Ugly:

- Spawning points are awful. Makes the lack of weapon at the start even more of a problem
- Punching is nigh-on useless
- As said above, the blurring effect is very irritating

So, whilst I commend the design and work that has gone into the look of the mod, I can't help but feel quite disappointed by my experience.

Overall (remember kids, this is a BETA): 6.5/10

SWEET.Nice aiming system and sweet smoothness on the handling.Starting with a gun would do things alot better.Bigger maps is needed to get deathmatch fun.More weapons but heck,it's still a beta and weapons will be added in time.This mod is the best mod i have downloaded so far.Punching should be way faster even if it's slow and bad on the original.Lower the damage on punches but make them fast and smooth :) The animation when you punch the gun don't seems to be completed.It's a bit too fast and missing the smooth elegance.I love the control and mouse steering :) Feels smooth and good in my opinion.Graphics is great.Deathmatch could be very fun even on PD:S but then we need bigger maps to move around on :) Thanks for this and i know when few more things is added and completed it will RULE EVEN ALOT MORE THAN NOW

This is probably one of the best mods I have played. The gameplay seemed messed up for about the first half hour, but after that it caught on pretty easily. The main focus that leads to success so far has been teamplay. The team that can work well in a group and cover each other will have a pretty easy time staying on top. I don't know why you guys don't seem to be putting more effort into playing. It takes more than five or ten minutes to get a good feel for a game :P . The only thing that annoys me has to be the lag issues with servers and overuse of blur, but I got over the whole blur thing in about 20 minutes. Other than that really good mod, especially for a beta.

The beta had been released to know your opinions about all that. So don't worry, i'll be tweaked and will become better in upcomming revisions.
The main job had been mixing all the stuff and get used to the engine. It's obvious you like this part. Now comes the part we've not been working on (so much) because of the lack of betatesting.

People need to realize, this is a beta, its not going to be dead on right away, but you guys did a fairly decent job. I have to say I really like how the team managed to grasp a lot of the PD feel (blurry when punched, brings back some memories, lol) without changing a whole lot.

And to whoever said who wants to play an Xbox game on PC, it's a N64 game, and it was an amazing game that if ported correctly would be just what some of us have been waiting for.
