The engine smooth high res textures, except when you zoom in, so, you can use high res textures...

That smoothing is actually part of the problem bet eh man its too late now I aint going back. This style suits my idea better, well for me at least.

As long as it's the style you want, nothing else matters.

Though with proper use of mipmaps, your large textures shouldn't hurt the engine much. Even with a 512x512, the game would only draw the smallest mipmap when zoomed out. You could control the numbers of mipmaps too, which controls how much shading and bluring is done when zoomed.

Yea.

The main reason for this change is that the previous style just wasn't dark enough and the gradient fixes that. Anyway... as you said its style I want that matters.

Thanks for the input.

Well actually even cartoony stuff has flat/semi-gradient shading.

Also, what texture resolution are you currently using?

It varies depending on the unit. This big *** tank uses a 700x700 texture but most units use a 512x512 texture.

Description

I have been trying to get a certain feeling for my mods graphics and I think finally I have something thats closer to what I want. Sadly though the units are becoming less cartoon/anime like in texture. I just cant get it right with flat colours, trust me I tested and tried to make it work countless times. I think its because I will have to make the resolution a lot higher to make it look proper and that can hurt the dear engine.

Not all the cartoonyness is gone though, the flat black lines will stay and there wont be scratches and such but all units will have some heavy gradients and shadow on them, like the ones above. Also the updated style works better with the post apocalyptic vibe and the graphics engine I think.

Anyway for anyone who wants to know these units are the American Empires heavy tanks(with a lot more texturing work done on them). The one with camo is for their 2nd army or general. Its the same unit but there is a possibility it will get a few different upgrades that what the 1st army will have for their heavy.

Also there is new Terrain and trees which might need to be made a bit lighter I think. I have to check the lighting on that map first though.

Hope you dudes like it.
