Perhaps you should call Japan the Dai Nippon Teikoku, which was what Japan called itself at the time. Just a suggestion.
Dai Nippon Teikoku means "The Empire of Greater Japan" which was a propaganda name given during Japan's agressive expansion in the Pacific. Simillar to "Grossdeutsches Reich" name for Nazi Germany.
Go for Imperial Japanese Army as it will fit better since you are re-naming USA for US Marines.
