It's not easy trying to squeeze some quality out of Flashpoint.
The combination of an old lighting system and dxt1 compression
can mangle a good texture.
Yeah.Time is the thing that hampers most people.Especially
a modder.
A simple ambient occlusion bake is a great basis for any
diffuse texture though.
Then you block in the basic colours.After that,highlighting
and details are next.Although everybody will have their own
level,it's possible to get decent results without much training.
Specular and normals are a bit less "artistic" in nature.
Tutorials are a good source of information.But they can't substitute getting in there,and making mistakes yourself.

i'm on the same boat as Stahl.. i really hope to get better at texturing but time is limited and a lot of tuts are pretty overwhelming..

oh and true, AO maps made a HUGE difference in texturing when i started using them, they're great!
