It looks like their ranks are being worn where an SSI should be. Is that just for the player's benefit, so you don't have to squint at their vests? (and so you don't have to research a bunch of damn SSI's?)
Funny because this is like a flashback to my IET experience where my peers would wear those patches on their left ACU sleeve to mark their position in the platoon.
You are 19 and likely fail to realize having NPC soldiers and playermodel soldiers would be very confusing, and playing as soldiers would be very out of place in a mod where you play as the broken, hopeless, regular Joes trying to hang on to life as the world collapses around them.
And calling me a "grumpy old ****" isn't exactly helping you look like you're older than 13.
I don't mean on the same map but it would be interesting to be soldiers with no command trying to survive the apocalypse. yes its designed to be rag tag reg joes but no games make you soldiers.. just saying.
And calling you a grumpy old **** was very, very immature of me.
you grumpy old ****
I'm 20 so I don't know what are you talking about.
I don't get it, why wanting to play as a soldier for once in a god damn zombie game makes me a 13 year old?
There are bizillion games where you play as a generic, broken, hopeless, regular Joes. It gets boring after some time.
Also the already existent characters to choose are so... ugly. Not in the way they're modeled, cause they're gorgeous, but in the art style. I don't want to play as Jive, wearing some damn ugly pink pimp coat. Or Bateman, like some kind of **** Tracy. They only ones that are sort of ok for me are Molotov and Hunter, but barely ok.
Also I don't like playing as a premade character with some kind of personalities (I know that these guys don't have any back story but just by the way they dress you can say something about them), that's why I'd like to play as a soldier. You can't say anything about him, you can't judge him by his uniform, it doesn't have any kind of personality. And because of that it helps with immersion when I as him in the game.
inb4 NMRIH its not a RPG
inb4 "I didn't said you were 13 year old."
The fact still remains that having NPC and playermodel soldiers would be confusing. Not to mention how out of place a soldier would look swinging a shovel or a lead pipe because their double-barreled shotgun is out of ammo.
Also if you want to play as a soldier or soldier-like person and kill zombies, refer to these mods:
Really? You're comparing some simple little addons like zombie horde, that doesn't have any kind of immersion what so ever, to this mod?
The only mods I can acknowledge are Paranoia and the one for ArmA II. Not even saying that some of these mods you've listed are either dead or not close to a stable release.
"The fact still remains that having NPC and playermodel soldiers would be confusing."
Then you make them slightly different? Problem resolved.
"Not to mention how out of place a soldier would look swinging a shovel or a lead pipe because their double-barreled shotgun is out of ammo."
So if you were a soldier, and you'd encounter a group survived people, and if were out on ammo, wouldn't you use a double-berreled shotgun, a shovel or a lead pipe to kill some zombies?
I don't think it would hurt to allow people to play as a Hazmat guy either? If not a Soldier, than playing as a Hazmat guy makes some sense. Meant to stop an infection, playing as a guy to stop it.
(I hope that I said this correctly :/)
Can't wait to have them Special forces Airborne guys, the Green berets to be deployed on the infected sectors. This mod/game is kicking more *** every time this gets updated. Good job, men!
The ranks are in the wrong place, but other than that they look pretty good. Will you guys be making M4 Carbines for them to use (M4 carbine, which is semi auto and burst) to be more realistic? (US Army and probably National Guard don't use M16A4, they use the M4)
If you want more realism I would suggest changing the camo name from "ACU" to "UCP" as that is how it's called in the Army or the National Guard. The 2nd LT has the most armour on him so I'm guessing the higher the rank the higher the health and combat abilities?.
In which way? Does it breaks the squad and forces them to flee in every direction negating damage or combat on the way?. Or does it automatically cancels any waypoints that were given them and makes them go defensive?
A combination of both! It depends on which rank you take out, but they decrease infantry accuracy, cause lack of coordination, they might flee or try and fend for themselves, or in a last ditch effort they may even try and suicide with a grenade.
Looking quite attractive. good job character modeler. These guys look like they'll add an interesting dynamic to levels come 1.07 (or whenever implemented).
Looks nice and I think that you could also make bandits to make the game a little more... cool, the bandits can like drop their weapons and other stuff when they die.
What are they?
Enemies?
Allies?
from what they have given out so far think it will depend on the map.
If this mod had bandits, they will ALL be hostile to the players.
did the devs say that or are you just making assumptions >_>
good question, I was thinking the same...
No gasmasks?
Gasmask art is coming later. Not done yet.
Nice now they just need some aim-points for those M16s and maybe a SAW and there good to go!
It looks like their ranks are being worn where an SSI should be. Is that just for the player's benefit, so you don't have to squint at their vests? (and so you don't have to research a bunch of damn SSI's?)
That is correct, it was done solely for the player's benefit of being able to identify them from a distance.
Funny because this is like a flashback to my IET experience where my peers would wear those patches on their left ACU sleeve to mark their position in the platoon.
So they are either trying to rescue you or gun you down as infected, map dependent. Sounds pretty awesome.
Are there gonna be any zombified National Guards as well?
That's what I was thinking
There will!

I want to play as a soldier, god damn it D:
You and every other 13 year old looking at these.
I am 19 and i would like to play as the soldiers... so **** you grumpy old ****

You've kind of stumbled on to something we're already planning...

Actually the US Army and USANG *DO* use the M16A4, and they use the M4 as well. It depends on the task and the role of the soldier.
M4 carbine is planned for a later date. The ranks are intentionally in the wrong place so players can see them from a distance.

One white dude? WOW racist, y u no make black dude first? :o
because they die first! xD
Fair point :p

The ranks are because their AI is based on a command hierarchy. Killing a SSG or a 2LT will cause chaos.
It is only referred to as ACU on the texture files, the player will never see the names ACU, UCP or Multicam anywhere in the game.
"Killing a SSG or a 2LT will cause chaos."

Realy?That would be awesome!
I want mai black dude! :(
Coming later.

They look great :D
Looks nice and I think that you could also make bandits to make the game a little more... cool, the bandits can like drop their weapons and other stuff when they die.
This must be the second or third NG model for Nmrih now.
Third, but the only fully complete one
It's CODish but better than the old models.
your mod is awesome love it to see that there will come new stuff to it
if i derp around and run into a squad of these ima run like a little gurl since my aim sucks =P
No Grammar here!
