Naruto: Ninja Chronicles is a Half-Life modification based on the popular Japanese anime Naruto. It is an online multiplayer game, where players will be as if they were in the world of Naruto.
You will need an original copy of Half-Life with an unused CD Key and Steam (www.steampowered.com).
Here is a quick overview of NNC:
Movement is based on four elements: normal walking, running, dashing, jumping and super jumping. Walking and running is done as in Half-Life. A new feature, dashing, will let a player move fast while draining stamina. Dashing is activated by double tapping the forward button. Jumping is included as well as super jumping. Super jumping is jumping again after jumping which will allow a person to jump higher at the cost of stamina
Stamina and Chakra System
There are two energy sources in the world of Naruto: Stamina, which could be considered physical energy, and Chakra, which could be considered as mental energy.
Stamina is used for melee, dashing, and super jumping. Stamina will recover over time.
NNC will include three game modes: Free Fight, Team Play, and Capture the Scrolls.
Free Fight – Each man for themselves.
Team Play – Each team faces off against each other! The team with the most kills at the end of the round wins.
Capture the Scrolls – Infiltrate into the enemy’s base to take their scrolls back to your base!
For the first release, the only playable characters will be Naruto and Sasuke. Each player will have two jutsus for the first release, as well as the ability to do melee.
Kage Bunshin no Jutsu – Naruto’s jutsu. Depending on how long you charge the attack, using Kage Bunshin will spawn between one to three clones that will attack the enemy as soon as they're spawned. They can be killed with just one hit.
Harem (sexy) no Jutsu – Naruto’s jutsu. Once the attack is charged, the player will transform into a sexy girl and will stun all players within a certain radius for a few seconds.
Katon Ryuuka no Jutsu – Sasuke’s jutsu. Depending on how long the attack is charged, the player will create a long blaze of fire going directly towards the opponent.
Bunshin no Jutsu – Sasuke’s jutsu. Once charged, a static non-moving clone is created, where the player can then decieve and surprise attack the enemy. The bunshin vanishes after one hit.
Melee - The melee system, is based on punches and kicks combos, after every 3 consecutive hits, the opponent flies away from the player, giving both players time to consider their next attack.
Kunai – Each player will receive a certain amount of Kunais (knives) when they spawn. Throwing them is activated by the secondary attack button.
The first release (Beta 1.0) includes 4 maps:
NNC_Stadium - The chuunin exam stadium map. The map includes the stadium ground, the area around the stadium, the rooms inside the stadium and the towers that watch the stadium(aswell as roof tops, where Orochimaru and the Third Hokage fought).
NNC_Forest - A forest map. Featuring large areas with huge trees, covered with grass and a treetops ceiling with holes that creates special-looking beams of light.
NNC_Preliminary - The preliminary exam stadium map. Featuring a large area to fight on, the hands statue, and the blacony around the stadium.
NNC_ValleyofEnd - Valley of end map(where Naruto and Sasuke had their battle). Features a big river with a waterfall in the middle, large areas to fight on around the river, a forest around the entire map and the two statues of the warriors near the waterfall.
It's here, the update! A lot has been going on lately as we continue to develop NNC...
First off, the Kage Bunshin Jutsu is completely finished and functional. The clones now spawn and disappear with a poof cloud and they have something to say on about anything(in other words they have a lot of sounds that match the situation they're in, credits go to Mobius for this). More than that, the player now has control over the actions of the clones, he can decide whether he wants them to seek an enemy and attack or whether to follow the player. This is decided by using the secondary attack button. Here are a few Kage Bunshin action shots and there's also more in the POTM:
Now that Kage Bunshin is finished, we've moved on to Naruto's 2nd jutsu: Sexy no jutsu. This jutsu is already finished and functional as well. This jutsu transforms the player into the sexy no jutsu model and creates another one or two clones depending on how long the attack was charged. The player then stuns all the players and clones in a certain radius which varies according to the amount of time used to charge the attack. The jutsu also has a lot of visual effects such as blood coming out of the stunned players' nose and spawning & disappearance clouds. Check it out (footage also available in the POTM):
We also have a new addition to the team. Release is our new mapper and he has already begun creating amazing maps for the mod. We've decided we want to change the style of our maps and so release created a map which will be a guideline for the mapping style on the mod. Note that this map is still a work in progress, it's not finished and release is still tweaking parts of it:
Now for more ingame footage... Check out the POTM on the upper right of the site, it might look like a regular POTM but if you click on it you'll find out that it's actually animated. This POTM shows Naruto's specialty in the coming release of NNC, the sexy combo. What we did there is connect between 2 of Naruto's jutsus: First, we spawned one clone to attack the enemy (in this case, the enemy is evil bizt). Bizt noticed the clone early enough to escape from it on time, not allowing it to catch him. This is where the combo comes in. While bizt was running away from the clone, I've charged Sexy no jutsu to it's max and waited for bizt to get within the range of the attack. When bizt was close enough, he got stunned, which gave the clone more than enough time to catch up =)
The last part of this update will be about Sasuke's second jutsu. Having a Goukakyuu and Bunshin no jutsu while Naruto has Sexy no jutsu and Kage Bunshin no jutsu is pretty uneven. We've decided to change Sasuke's second jutsu to something new: Fuuma Shuriken(Shadow Windmill Shuriken). This jutsu works by charging up a big shuriken that consists of four large blades, then firing it. The shuriken will shoot straight in the direction that it was aimed at. Once the Shuriken is in a close enough range with an enemy, the second shuriken(This weapon is actually 2 shurikens where one is hidden in the shadow of another), will go in action. The second shuriken is a homing shuriken limited by time which will go directly towards the player that was caught in the attack.
