Overall I think it's great that changes are being made, but parts about the original sounds made some of them better. The newer sounds are more realistic, which helps to improve the game, but the wood sound effect, bullet fly-by, and the water sound effect especially all seem worse in my opinion. It just seemed like what was gained in realism was lost in making the player feel powerful when they shot something, and making them feel in danger when shot at. The concrete and metal effects with the distance changes as well are all really great and I think add to the game. Thanks for all your hard work.

I quote " It just seemed like what was gained in realism was lost in making the player feel powerful when they shot something, and making them feel in danger when shot at "

Sorry mate but you'll need to be more precise than that in your explanation. I don't quite get it all.
Also, You say right before "sounds are more realistic".
I'm lost, what is your point ?

Anyway, keep in mind a few things : NPC when hit use 2 wood hit sounds (there are 5 of them) and also 2 sand sounds (there are 3 in total) so when you shoot them it sounds like you hit a sand-filled wooden barrel which to me is quite weird. I did some tests with those new sounds and it was really awkward as there was a quick little whizz before each sound file playing before the real physical hit noise (weird if you shoot someone 5m in front of you). So i was like okay, let's make it muted for those 4 npc-used sounds and pretend ppl won't dump their mag into the sand or wood for fun (coz it will be 33% & 60% chance respectively only to result in hearing a sound)!

The point of this modification is of course to make it the most realistic possible but also ENGINE-FRIENDLY. Remember COP (so Misery then) is coded badly and allows VERY FEW modifications.

I COULD NOT use whizz + supersonic crack sounds as most of the gunfights are <100m ahead you. You have to make again a COMPROMISE to improve the game but make it suitable to most of the situations so it doesn't feel too weird.

Finally, if it's just about the sound itself or the volume of any part of it, there is IIRC a dude I replied to, who wanted to do some sound modding. Basically you'll need audacity and SAV&T to edit .ogg comments. So if you don't like them, just revert to vanilla or make your own edits.

I hope now you understand better what is the struggle of being a sound modder in a very limited-engine game. :)

It just seems that aside from making them more engine-friendly as you said, that the sounds that were added were more personal preference than anything else, so maybe the sound changes could be an addon instead of in with the rest of the mod files?

Then remove the sounds. What can I say ? Maybe you prefer vanilla lol. You obviously haven't read what I explained.

The whole mod is a personal preference, it's not like we add or remove anything anyone says, we take requests and we assess them and see whether they fit or not, we don't take orders. You don't like something? fine, avoid using it or revert to the original files
