Are there going to be additional WW2 weapons added to the Zone?

So far the counter have just started, we already have the Kar98 which has some fine animations, and I have added two new variants beside replacing the vanilla, and surely I'll try to put more antique shooters.

Cool. I'd love to see the MG42 get added in, with a re-chambering option in the upgrade screen for 7.62mm NATO, given that the modern German MG3 is pretty much exactly that.

Man, MG42 is my dream gun for STALKER! You can be damn sure that I will do everything to get it working.
I would rather put MG3 as another variant, with reduced RoF (900 rpm) and option to raise it by upgrades, as it can be modified by installing different (lighter or heavier) bolts and recoil springs.

Right now it's possible for me to add the MG42 and give it animations similar to the M249 or M60, but I want the real MG42 magazine to be in the game, not just a lame workaround.

Oh, I get all of that, and I don't see a reason to not do both. The MG42 would still have the full 1200RPM though by default, and likely upgradable to be even more, whereas the MG3 would start at 900 and go to 1200RPM after them. I'd like to point out that there's extreme parts commonality between the two though, even to the point of many modern MG3's still having WW2 upper receivers, complete with Wehrmacht stampings.

And a quick edit for you, mp5lng, the MG42 could use both the smaller assault drums when deployed as an LMG for the mobility or a full belted box magazine when deployed as a static HMG.

Deployable tripod? That's a lot of weight and poor accuracy firing from the shoulder, kind of defeats the purpose... Maybe drop-spawn logic could be used to deploy a tripod'ed version, similar to fuel cans, IED's, sleeping bags, etc. I can't remember if there are any mounted/fixed machine guns in CoP to use for reference, there were in CS (Cordon, guard tower). Just something to give it higher accuracy and low/no felt recoil (low/no muzzle climb) during full auto fire, at the cost of no mobility and risk of loosing the weapon to incoming grenades (i.e. can jump/run away fast, leaving the gun, but slow to pack/pickup the gun).

I would love to see the Aliens smart gun iteration of the MG42, on an exo suit with some extra armor chest plates.

btw, my account is working again.

It had an underbarrel bipod by default. Realistically speaking though, no LMG or larger can be carried and fired the way video games and movies have them used. Weapons like the MG42 and M60 are heavy as hell, designed to take the mechanical and thermal pounding of sustained automatic fire from full-size rifle rounds and not jam, break, or otherwise fail to function, and with their insane fire rate the recoil on anything other than a fixed prone position would be uncontrollable.

So for the sake of mowing down hordes of snorks with an MG42, we'll just have to deal with the fact these things aren't used in a realistic manner.

@SpardaSon21 this is a common myth that is completely untrue. Google "MG42 sturmfeuer" - it's a hip firing stance that MG42 gunners were taught during training and every single gunner had to be able to perform it in emergency.
M60 was designed to be fired undeployed, special forces still use these guns despite their atrocious reliability only because M60 allows to lay down suppressive fire without being deployed.
I'm 180cm/65kg and I had no problem with firing PKM from the hip. Look what a professional gunner can do: Facebook.com

True, the MG42 has an acceptable recoil, that's precisely why it's a very handy support and assaulting LMG, plus, it also depends on the gunner.

It's extremely easy and cheap to make one, there are even instructions on the web if you want to look them up.
In WWII french and polish partizans were producing them in garages :P
