Military Forces Quake 3 (MFQ3) is the continuation of the line of AirQuake mods. Many of the team come from working on AirQuake2, and many have made add-ons to the legendary AirQuake. In MFQ3, the player can choose to fly planes of all sizes, drive tanks or even captain boats, fighting in a variety of locations. MFQ3 aims to balance the realism of 'serious' flight sims with arcade fun to mix an infectious gameplay cocktail. MFQ3 currently has a public alpha available for download, and we are nearing the completion of the next public release. A few highlights for the next release: - All new HUD system that looks something like TheRealThing (tm). - Tons of new vehicles: planes, tanks and boats! - Shadows cast by aeroplanes: easier landings at last. - All new Team Arena-based UI system. - Basic features of our IGME working. - Kickass maps. - Sweet guided missles! No more cannon-spamming. - Animated gear dropping/retraction.

I'm just re-posting Angel's post from the MFQ3 site. Hi everyone, who is still reading this... Okay, news are slow, I know. I noticed that most of the guys inquiring to the state of mfq3 want to know the differences, so I thought I would do a couple of comparisons, and tell a little about the systems.

Hi everyone, who is still reading this...

Okay, news are slow, I know. I noticed that most of the guys inquiring to the state of mfq3 want to know the differences, so I thought I would do a couple of comparisons, and tell a little about the systems.

But first: We have 2 new coders trying to get into the code. Hopefully this will mean a faster development cycle.

Okay. Let's go back to the v.40 days and sum up what was in that version (mainly for the beta testers, because they wouldn't recognise the game if they went back.)

v.40 had 8 vehicles for you to play with. They were: M1A1i Abrams tank, the T-90 tank, the BRDM kindof amphibious personel carrier, the BMP3, F-16, JAS-39 Gripen, F-15E Strike Eagle, and the F-5 Tiger.

we had 3 maps or so to play on, mostly Desert Storm by Abbo, but also Groundwar by Cannon and Turbulent Winds by RaptorE.

Weaponry we had a machine gun on each vehicle, iron bombs, FFAR rockets and that was it.

As of this writing we are saying v.76.

The game has had an almost complete overhaul. on top of v.40 we have guided missiles, a cool targeting camera, some 20 vehicles, flares (otherwise those guided missiles might be too hard to dodge), new shadow code (which looks very cool, btw), visual weapons that actually drop from the pylons(!!), a boat (you can sail around), the BRDM and the BMP are now actually amphibious, a new gameset (WW1.. The Red Baron strikes again), a butload of new weapons (eg. we have Mk82 iron bombs, bigger mk83, and biggest mk84).

The HUD has gotten a MAJOR revision. Gone are the 3D crosshairs that didn't look the same on different resolutions, now the hud is 2D and the crosshair is moved according to the way your aircraft is pointing. We are also working on missions.

Currently we have an In-Game Mission Editor (IGME). It allows you to place vehicles (they don't move yet), and SAMs (which most certainly do work!!). This means that you can set up for instance different base defenses, depending on what the players want (I have a mission for Desert Storm where red's base is protected by 6 SAMs. It takes about 20 minutes and 6 deaths to kill them all and anihilate the base, unless you fly up high and bomb with the B2 Spirit bomber and its load of mk83s).

This was the short version of it. Next time I'm gonna tell you more about the guided missiles and how to use them. =)
