You will need TexMod, LAA applied to masseffect.exe, and the full pack that's it. FXAA is optional if you want to play with fancy shaders.

I'd be glad to help, what are your system specs? Ram and 32-bit/64-bit OS, and graphics card specifically.

Yeah just to see if you can get in without a crash, try just one file. If it still crashes it's something to do with TexMod and not my mod.

No, no, no, that happens to everyone with TexMod with all mods and all games. Hit alt+enter to exit and then re-enter full screen, they will go away. The program is not perfect but it's currently the only program that let's us make and use these type of mods.

There is another app called uMod that MIGHT eventually work well for Mass Effect, but currently it gives a green screen every time BINK video comes up. It works in much the same way that TexMod does, but it is also far from perfect. After enabling LAA on it, it still does not appear to load the full texture pack, but it appears to be partially working and without the random texture/text glitches. Maybe look into it?

I ha tried it but I only saw film grain working and the green loading screens were a bit much. But I have high hopes for it in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.;)

Yeah, I've put in a ticket about the BINK video problems, so hopefully we'll see some progress there. Going to keep working with it some to see if I can figure out why not all the textures get loaded properly.

Hi there, thanks for the reply - I did follow the Steam method. What is the LAA patch and where do I get it?

I have 4GB Ram and I'm on Windows 7 64 bit...so I should be fine, right?

Help? :D

LAA is under the download section of this mod and is listed in the mod description that you need it if you experience crashes (it allows the game to use more than 2 gigs of RAM). So get it, apply it and with those specs you should be all set :)

Ok, I have to be doing something wrong lol. I've downloaded the LAA and the Texmod files. I've put the binaries/MassEffect.exe file in them along with the .tpf file and when I launch it the game launches two Mass Effect.exes. One crashes and the other eventually launches (after a couple minutes) and the one that launches has no discernible graphics changes.

I'm not sure exactly what you are saying you did to set it up but follow here: Moddb.com carefully and you should be all set. Also don't run texmod or mass effect as an administrator if you have the steam version, it will cause an infinite loop of opening TexMOd. Good luck and let me know if you need any more help :)

Yeah, I've followed the instructions carefully. The only thing I can think of is that I've downloaded and installed ME1 via Origin. I don't launch the game through Origin though. So I'm kinda doubting that it is Origin.

But yeah, when I use texmod and click run the game launches. Then I get the spiny circle and nothing happens. Then after a minute or two it launches Mass Effect again. The second version that launches doesn't have the .tpf file applied to it.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with Origin because I closed Origin and have been able to launch the game without it.

My specs are:

i7 920
GTX 560 Ti
850w PSU
6GB RAM
Win7 Professional

Hi there again, I think the problem is origin there has been a fix posted in the third and fourth posts of the link below there are 2 options one is to do a re-name the executables every time, the second is to make a .bat file, which is a text file (copy and paste what's in the post into it) that you rename .bat and you can then run that to get into the game, it will do the work for you rather than having to rename every time.

I think I got it working. Not entirely sure. I don't remember how Mass Effect 1 looked when I played it all those years ago.

But it definitely looks sharp right now so I'm guessing that it's working.

Thanks for the help. Have a good long weekend.
