Description

Brachiosaurus lived in the middle to late Jurassic period, about 156-145 million years ago. The name Brachiosaurus means "arm reptile" due to prodigious length of its forelegs when compared to its hind limbs. Brachiosaurus was one of the biggest animals to walk this planet; we believe she weighed up to 80 tones, twenty times heaver than a fully grown elephant. With close cropping teeth, designed for nipping and shredding the foliage of the branch it was adapted to eat some of the most elevated plant material including conifer leaves and fruit. Due to its height it could graze from the top of tree tops which no other sauropod could reach. Brachiosaurus and some of the other large sauropods needed to have large, powerful hearts and very high blood pressure in order to pump blood up the long neck to the head and brain. If you encounter such a majestic creature please do not fear, this was a very docile animal and the chances are they won’t even notice you.
