Mirkwood was decided in a poll on the forums called F.M.G, the letters represent the first letter in new factions that are going to be added in the future. As you may have noticed with the FAMG poll from the past, in which the letter A got the most votes, thus Arnor was added.
Mirkwood, besieged by the dark forces of Dol Guldur. These elves remain strong and vigilant against the forces, corruption and the foul magic of Dol Guldur. They have lived here for ages predating even Saurons rise to power, in the old days it was called Greenwood the Great. When the journey to the undying lands started, many elves chose to remain in the woods along the Anduin river, they are called Silvan elves or simply Wood elves. They live near the mountains of Mirkwood, some live in tunnels, others live in the cities and some live in the trees.
This is also the home of prince Legolas, one of the heroes of the War of the ring and also part of the Fellowship of the Ring. Currently the elves are led by their nobel King Thranduil, the father of Legolas.
The elves of Mirkwood, unlike most elves are used to many of the perils, being skilled hunters and woodsmen. With the rise of Sauron and his fortress outpost Dol Guldur, they silently take out orcs, trolls, spiders, goblins and other evil being lurking in the woods.
Since Mirkwood has fought Dol Guldur the most in lore and such. It's only logical to make them a counter faction of Dol Guldur in the "Glorious" scheme of Lone Wolf. Their primary attribute is Agility with Intelligence as a secondary. They are one of the masters of stealth, capable of melee combat with extrodinary skills in spears.
They seem similar to Lorien, what's the difference REALLY?!?
Lorien is the ultimate archer faction with great range and stealth and being fast on their feet.
All Mirkwood units that were previously in Lorien are being transfered into Mirkwood, at the moment there are no plans on replacing them in Lorien due to that they are ofter superfluous units.

Their Castle will have Treehouse plots,vegetation and other defence plots.
