Lazarus Decλy is an interactive multimedia video game project, utilizing Looking Glass Technologies’ 1994 PC classic, System Shock as a base. The goal of the project was to create an expansion pack-like experience, adding to the base game, utilizing some already existing game assets, whilst introducing many new and original assets which include: Original music, original audio log recordings, original textures, an original map design, and an original story unrelated to the base game whatsoever.

"Lazarus Decλy is an extremely challenging fan-mission. Including intelligent puzzles and claustrophobic level design that will test players mind, spacial awareness and willpower to survive. A rewarding experience from beginning to end." - 3RDplayer

The GOG release of System Shock Enhanced Edition is recommended!

This mod is only compatible with the 'Pre - Sourceport' System Shock Enhanced Edition (Update: 1e.16) [Game Ver: 1.0.0] and System Shock Classic Edition with use of the SSP Tool!

If you are playing Lazarus Decλy using System Shock Enhanced Edition, any update after (1e.16) will not work!

In the year 2167 secret underground facility Lazarus Laboratories sought to further extend the average human life span as a part of a government contract, using nanite cybernetics (aka Cyber-nites).

The Cyber-nites were a resounding success with numerous in-house test groups, saving lives even. Unfortunately, however, there was one fatal flaw with the Cyber-nites, they couldn’t repair psychological damage.

If left unchecked, the Cyber-nites can rewrite a patient’s brain chemistry entirely, leaving behind only mindless shells with animalistic brains and calculated defense measures.

You are a patient that has woken up from stasis, the entire facility has been abandoned, only mindless cyborgs and the corpses of dead faculty remain. You must discover the secrets behind Cyber-cycle-sickness, and escape the facility with your life, if you can…

Very good mod, I enjoyed it a lot. The story with steinman and lazarus was engaging (the sound design on the audio logs is surprisingly high quality, too), and the music sounds like it came straight from the original game. One thing, though. I've seen some of the preview footage on youtube and apparently there's supposed to be custom menu music, but when I launch the game the default System Shock menu music plays. A custom ending slide when you get to the elevator would've been a nice touch too, but I can understand that might've been too time consuming, especially considering that this was a student project of yours (which makes the mod even more impressive). Great job though, the mod is a good 6 or 7 hours of solid content.

Thank you very much for the feedback! I am incredibly glad you enjoyed it! For whatever reason while working on an install method using the GOG rollback capability the file I used to make new title music would crash the game immediately for whatever reason, and at that point I just wanted to get LD out the door so I dropped the file from the mod entirely, to my dismay.

It was always planned to have some FMV styled cutscene or artwork (ala. Sega CD aesthetic) depicting the player character escaping the facility only to find out the world they once knew was essentially gone, kinda like the cut 'Army of Darkness' ending. If I can recall correctly custom video implementation didn't exist within the editor at the time of completion, and there was no way to show a single slide or image outside of the results screen at the end. If the technology would have been there, I guarantee you I would have glued some tin foil to an actor/actress and had them perform in front of a green screen for a proper ending.

If you were ever interested in listening to the soundtrack, I have posted it online for people to listen to and download:

Hey, I made a mission file to port this mod to source port, however there are sometimes some graphical glitches and crashes, I don't know if it's something I can fix or if it's on the development side, but if you'd like the file I made so you can test/fix it, let me know.

Send me a private message, and I'll give you my contact info. I'd like to take a look at it. Like I mentioned in my other comment to those who asked me about it, I can guaranteed its how the assets were imported. At the time the standards for what worked in game and what didn't weren't yet defined. Some textures would still show up in game despite not being compatible, and I didn't know until someone else mentioned it to me at the very last moment after release. If I can see what assets are messed up I may be able to assist in correcting those specific assets. Thank you

Just beated it, took me 7 hours to complete this Amazing mod. It is seriously hard to figure out what to do as everything is hidden in this mod. I had to look after every corner, every furniture, everywhere. This mod is truly based on searching for secrets. That is the main reason why it took me so long to beat, there are no walkthroughs on this mod so I had to figure out everything by myself. The level design was amazing, used to its maximum potential. It is truly the ultimate System Shock challenge. And to answer the question in the last paper - Yes, I have found all 15 of them. Loved the story.

Thank you so much for creating this marvelous mod!
