With all the more extravagant Friday Updates of the last few months, it suddenly dawned on me that it's been some time since we've done a good old unit showcase. So, here's three of them.

From left to right: Ritterbruder (Teutonic Order), Canon of the Holy Sepulchre (Hospitallier Order), Templar Sergeant (Templar Order)

They are all slightly themed of course, that theme being the Chapter House, and its Knightly Orders. They'll also all three appear in the Prologue, for the Crusaders. Beyond the Prologue, the Germans will also have the Ritterbruder and Templar Sergeant (or rather, the entire Teutonic and Templar orders), and the Spanish will also have the Hospitallier Order, and with it the Canon of the Holy Sepulchre. The fact that these units are now finished also means that two of the four Knightly Orders for the Prologue are finished where textures are concerned, those being the Hospitalliers and Templars. The other units for those orders, the Hospitallier Surgeon and Templar Knight respectively, have both already been shown, here and here. Once again the excellent models submitted to us by Yomgui some time ago were used, in this case those being the pot helmet, Teutonic helmet, heater shield and great axe. The texture of the Canon of the Holy Sepulchre was taken from the Age of Crusades files, and is as such courtesy of Argalius.

To go into more detail about the units, I'll just use iliander's excellent stats again. The Ritterbruder is a very heavy cavalry unit, as testified by its cost of 400 Papal Favour and 6 Population. It has 1500 HP, which is far more than any other Chapter House unit, and double that of its most obvious competitor, the Templar Knight. Unlike the Templar Knight, Ritterbrüder don't heal themselves over time, and have considerably less speed. The Ritterbruder has a very large melee attack of 65, but then that's more than compensated by its extreme cost. This also fits perfectly with the Teutonic Order, which focus is sheer military strength.

The Canon of the Holy Sepulchre is an axe-wielding infantry unit. Given that the focus of the Hospitallier Order is healing, and their other unit is the Hospitallier Surgeon, not a particularly excellent fighter, they could well use a bit of heavy infantry, and Canons of the Sepulchre are exactly that. It is very fast for an infantry unit, and has a siege attack that few other units can match. Its melee attack is also high, at 42, particularly considering it gets doubled when fighting cavalry. The Canon costs 3 Population and 200 Papal Favour.

The Templar Sergeant is a spearman, and little more. It is quite a considerable bit stronger than the average Spearman though, having 300 Hitpoints. Its melee attack of 16 may look bare, even after seeing it gets quadrupled against cavalry, but then it's worth considering that in comparison with other Chapter House units, the Templar Sergeant is very much affordable. 105 Papal Favour and 2 Population, that is. It is not quite as fast as the Canon of the Holy Sepulchre, but not a slug either.

Now that the full potential of misterscp's recent discovery starts to dawn on us, the team has been discussing vividly how we could implement his findings. Here's The Dude on the possibility of having a Trebuchet:

Dude wrote: They would have to be so slow to not look idiotic, it would be an utter pain in the ass moving them half way across the map.

K&B salutes... Pepp and iliander's one year friendship. Well, only two team members really salute it to be honest, and they are, er, Pepp and iliander... :P
K&B refutes... The Syrian civil war. Apart from the dreadful atrocities that are commited every day on Syrian streets, the fighting might well enter Aleppo and Damascus, two cities full of historic (including some Medieval) monuments, damage to which would be a catastrophe for cultural history.
