Hi, Dise (aka barney) here,
I was revisiting this page and I was thinking about how I let the Half-Life community down. Sometimes I think that I shouldn't have posted the Apology notice, but then no one would've known the sinister thing I had done.
Now that I have access to the SDK, I was considering rebuilding HLC from the ground-up; WITHOUT STOLEN CONTENT. I know how to do it myself now.
What do you think? I'd love to see your opinion in the comments.

I am making a new Half-Life mod called creaTive Deathmatch. Please read this article.
I am going to be deleting the 2.0 version branch. It is a waste of space and the set-up process is very hard to do for beginners.
Read this article to find out why I have failed the PHOENIX and Half-Life modding community.
This is the FINAL EVER UPDATE for Xash3D. After that, I will go back to Steam.
This update removes texture filtering and more. See changelog.txt file.
This is an update for Half-Life Classic. Note that we changed the mod name and were no longer calling it Half-Life: Version One. This update will change...
A time when HLC was called Half-Life Version One. A time when I was quite bad at modding. This is the original Half-Life Version One.
After checking to see if there were any responses to my comment and/or why there haven't been any in my inbox it seems that it has been deleted, so now I'm going to repost it with the hope that the author won't delete it this time.
Anyways, if you want a mod that actually brings back the feeling of 1998 Half-Life, check this out:
Half-lifecreations.com
This mod
"- Fixed widescreen FOV being too low (but you'll have to change it again for 4:3)
- Fixed default gamma setting being way to high
- Disabled texture filtering for old school software style graphics in OpenGL mode
- Includes fixed screen roll mod [view bobbing]
- More gibs can be on screen at a time and they stay around for longer"
(By the way, I'm not the one who made this, it was made by a guy named JohnChronic.)
Except the problem being is that the mod you posted seems to be a bit more of a barebones restoration. This one here on moddb seems to do a bit more. So I'm still curious to see how it turns out when finished.
Thanks for the link though, if this mod doesn't pan out I guess I have the HLCreations one to fall back on.
What exactly does this mod do that the other one doesn't?
No download file. I can't see it.
The download link is right at the bottom of the post and it's titled "Half_Life_1998_Mod_v1.0.7z", and you also need to be a member to download it (if you don't want an account tied to your name, just sign up with a throwaway account.)
This is a cool mod. Sad to see it go. I don't really understand why there are so many haters.
"(Development closed)"
Oh. That was quick.
i think the reason is obious
REST.IN.PEACE. It was a good mod but since I didn't have the files to fix and continue the mod it's basically dead. If Dise comes back with the files then we can continue development but at the time being this mod is screwed.
I'm sorry you couldn't continue. the mod is one of my favorite HL1 mods. good luck with your future projects.
I'm really sorry to hear that pal. DM me
