Going to reply to this mostly to get the original creator's attention if possible: The main reason for this crash, I found, is if you load too many levels without texture compression enabled which apparently uses up too much VRAM. Now I imagine this is probably more an engine limitation than anything else given this even happened to me with a 2080 Super, unless the textures are so much larger to even overwhelm that.

Running with texture compression enabled does prevent the crash, but it also dramatically increases load times since the game is also trying to compress such massive textures down. I'm wondering now if it's possible to reduce the size of the textures slightly so they're still higher quality, but not so big that the engine runs out of useable VRAM. Either that or somehow modify the engine to take advantage of more VRAM.

Pretty nice! The textures are almost perfectly identical to the originals, and the AI has upscaled them quite well; the only noticeable faults are jagged edges that have been "kept" by the AI (it interprets them as intentional, so they don't get smoothed) and a few textures that don't look quite as good as they could here and there. Or some that are still low-res (as far as I can tell).
The only drawback to this mod is that it does increase loading times, particularly when loading into a level for the first time, but that's really outweighed by the subtle but powerful visual upgrade.

THX for this Upscaler, but I get this error 'Z_Malloc(): Failed to alloc 16777216', when I start a old or new saved game.
I found no solution or workaround.
I have Intel Core i5-5300U with 8Gb Ram and Intel 5500 with 1Gb.
The game runned with FX 3.0 with over 90 FPS.
Is there a solution for this problem?
THX

hey, i'll c&p from the comment section ..^^ but with integrated graphics you may just be out of luck unfortunately :/

try to set the command line parameter on your shortcut: +set com_zoneMegs 128
and maybe +set com_hunkMegs 192 too...

example:
C:\Games\jedioutcast\GameData\jk2sp.exe +set com_zoneMegs 128 +set com_hunkMegs 192

and/or maybe try my autoexec.cfg Pastebin.com (remember to set your resolution)

cheers

THX for the fast answer.
I tried everything.
SweetFX doesn't work too.
Is there another way to pimp JKII?

Now I'm totally confused.
I installed JKII with FX 3.0, EXPANDED MENU an AI 4x UpScale on my GIGABYTE 15X i7 9750H with RTX 2080 MaxQ aaaand...
I get exactly the same error! 'Z_Malloc(): Failed to alloc 16777216 bytes'
It can't be possible, that this error depends on integrated GPUs only.
Can anybody give a working installation guide for this mods?

well if the integrated graphics isn't the problem, i have no ideas left, except try to use openjk Github.com
which isn't recommended on windows if jk2 runs fine, but since it doesn't run it might be worth a shot...

and just in case, you used the command line parameters and the autoexec.cfg on your new install?

about sweetFX, not used that, but reshade worked for me.

and now i'm really out of ideas xP

cheers

You can try using the "4GB patcher" tool by ntcore.

My solution was to install it in a different order. Also with SweetFX.
The descriptions are not usable for every laptop. I use a 13" DELL i5-5300U
Dual-Core and integrated 1 Gb Intel HD 5500 and 8GB Ram.
You have to control, which changes are made from every installation in the config/autoexec file.
JKII runs with 40-60 FPS now.

I've added the 16x9 autoexec.cfg to the base folder, but the game starts in 640x480 resolution. I copied the mode, height and width strings from the original jk2config.cfg to autoexec.cfg and changed mode to -1 and h/w to 1280x720 respectively. Is there something I'm missing or neglected to do?

I did change those strings in both .cfgs. And added them to the new autoexec.cfg in the middle of the r_seta strings.

Fixed. Decided to try the disc version I have rather than the Amazon Games version and it works.

Anyone gotten mods working with the Amazon Games version? Seems that they removed the GameData folder entirely. Hate it when digital distributions modify the folder/app structure.
