There's nothing quite like the rush of running, falling, jumping and crawling your way toward the release switch whilst under fire from rockets, railguns and lasers... then jabbing that switch and releasing all your team mates! Then finally watching as they all come running out of the open doors and beat the other team to death with Laser Cleavers! There's never a dull moment in JB, you're either fighting to stay alive, fighting to release your team mates, or fighting to escape from jail!

A new map, some hardcore turrets and an Automatic Shotgun!

Posted by Wills on Oct 29th, 2008

We were blown away by the incredible response we recieved from ModDB readers two weeks back when we revealed that 0.5 would include Dinosaurs & Robots, so thank you all for the kind words and great feedback, we're taking everything into account! We promised more awesome shots at the time too, and today we deliver! Below you can see updated shots from Metropolis and Arroyo aswell as four shots from another new map, Kimiko. We're also revealing the new Automatic Shotgun and the rather hardcore Automated Turrets.

New Weapon Selection system:
One of the most frequent complaints about 0.4, was the standard weapon selection system, which enabled weapon hogging and didn't promote teamwork. So for 0.5, we've thrown it out completely, and replaced it with a slots system. Now you get six slots for each weapon type, so if you have a Rifle and want to swap it for a Shotgun, you just stand nearby and press X! The system has worked great in beta testing and is extremely fast, it also makes for a much more tactical and interesting game, as more players end up with a better variety of weapons.

The next release of Jailbreak is weeks from being finished, and we'll be releasing plenty more shots and a few trailers in the next month to give you a taster of what we've done. In the mean time, get on over to our website at www.jailbreaksource.com and be sure to add yourself to our Mod Watch if you haven't already! You can download the current release of Jailbreak: Source from ModDB, and the best way to get a good game is to join the Let's Play Jailbreak Steam Group! More news will be on it's way in the coming weeks!

Robots and dinosaurs gonna take the seriousness outta this mod, its great that you create new models but you srsly consider it making it toggleable if you want robots and dinosaurs or combine and rebels.

This never was a really serious mod in the first place. 0.4 had Rebels and Combine running around in Victorian England, remember?

Indeed complaining about the seriousness of the mod was made pretty moot as soon as we threw in maps like Iridium, set in a space ship and Plague, set in Medieval England. The Combine versus Rebels were always meant as place holders and if we had the means and know how to replace them for 0.4 then it wouldn't even be an issue at this point in time.

Were glad people are enjoying our media updates, there's even more news on the way, so keep watching and commenting (even if you hate Robots and Dinosaurs)!

i really like the idea, but if i´m honest you should spend more time in balance and outward appeareance (weapon models).
but hang on, you´re doing a great job ;)

I wouldn't worry mate, balance has been a key point in the development of 0.5 and i gaurantee that the entire experience is now perfectly balanced (in both general game play and escapes). Weapon models also have new animations and improved bump/phong maps.
